PREFACE
When I was younger, I didn’t know if I wanted to be a photographer or a preacher. I liked taking pictures, but I wanted to whoop and holler. God blessed me, however, with a gift to write, and I enjoy and love writing.
My family lived on seventeen acres of land, surrounded by trees. I didn’t realize the beauty of it until I was grown and everything had changed back home. We had three houses—my brother Leroy’s (we called him Dula) house, Robert Lee’s house, and our old wooden shack. About twenty or thirty feet from our back door was the potato house; my brother Clarence (we called him Son) lived there. When Robert Lee moved to Texas, we moved into his house—I was eleven then—and Son moved into our shack.
