About this ebook

Trene Plowman is a retired Labor and Delivery R.N., a chef, a Reiki Master, and a Mum to one son-Matthew. Trene loves the magic of reading and stories...and always shared that love with her child by reading to him or creating adventures from her imagination. These were often reflections of her own life experiences or those of her parents and grandparents, and are written with great love.
Trene is delighted that with this collection of short stories children will experience the joy of a simpler way of life, and share in the adventures of “A boy named Jake.” She hopes it will inspire them to be lifelong readers and to write down their own stories for themselves and their children

    Dedication

This book and these stories are dedicated to my parents; Bonnie and Gerald Plowman

and to my grandparents; Clarence, Enid Alice, John and Cora, my incredible siblings

and their families, and my own beautiful family... All of you are my true treasures.

I have deep gratitude for the gift of life, our precious family, the beautiful place we grew

up, and the wisdom, stories, love and laughter so freely taught and shared.

I love and honour you all.

T his bag sure is heavy, the little boy thought. Jake was strong for five years old and was used to helping out around the house, but this was really HARD! The hill was about a quarter of a mile long and he was getting close to the top of the dusty incline, his little face determined and smudged with dirt and sweat. He brushed his blonde hair out of his eyes with the back of a grubby hand and looked up at the sun. Boy....it’s hot!

He crested the hill and saw home. His Mom probably had lunch ready; she always had lunch ready when the sun was straight overhead.
