I t was a pleasure to work with a group of talented, creative and knowledgeable people who became my friends.
Through the miracle of technology, we created this book via email. Dr. Ailes and myself in Nevada, Joy Underhill in New York and Tony Loughran in Florida. The idea to write a book from a dog’s perspective with humor was a labor of love.
With Tony’s passing, I contacted his wife, Beth and she has helped us with this book to colorize some of Tony’s drawings. The original title Happy Tails – Hilarious Helpful Hints for Dog Owners
was published in 2004.
All parties involved in the revision of the book have given permission to forward all proceeds of the sales to Feeding Pets of the Homeless® of which I am the founder and president.
Thank you for your support,

Franklin Award for Humorous Book
category.
G enevieve Frederick is the architect of Happy Tails, bringing together the writers and the illustrator to create the book and then have it published. The book was awarded an IBPA Benjamin Franklin Winner for Humor in 2005, in New York City. The book has been updated to keep up with medical advances.
After that visit to New York City, the images of homeless individuals, living on the street with their dogs would not leave her mind. She wondered how they found food for their dogs.
At her home in Nevada, Genevieve called food banks that already served the homeless and simply asked them if she could provide donated dog and cat food, would they make it available to their clients. They answered with a resounding, Yes!
That was the beginning of a long journey to start the nonprofit Feeding Pets of the Homeless® and to watch it grow to become the only national organization of its kind.
In time, emergency veterinary care and wellness clinics were included to provide free vaccinations and basic exams. It also became apparent that homeless shelters needed sleeping crates so the homeless and their pets could have shelter with the added opportunity of working with a social worker to get out of homelessness.
From the onset, the successful coordination, implementation and monitoring of these programs has been due to dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters.
