Ready, Set, Draw! - Juan Calle
CHIMPANZEE
This jungle ape has arms longer than its legs and thick, dark hair.
1. Draw a torso, then add circles for the head and joints. Sketch long arms and shorter legs.
2. Lightly draw a shaggy outline over the frame. Shape the face and position the ears.
3. Softly sketch lines of fur. Add facial features, fingers, and toes.
4. Paint your chimp with different shades of fur and a pale brown face, ears, hands, and feet.
TOP TIP
The chimp’s hands and feet are much like a human’s, with the same joints, opposable thumbs, and fingernails — but they have longer digits and thick hair on the back.
TAPIR
This mammal from Asia has a body like a large pig, with a half-black and half-white pattern.
1. Build up the body by joining a circle for the head to two ovals above the front and back legs. Add a trunk.
2. Give your tapir eyes and round ears. The front feet have four toes, and the back have three.
3. Sketch the folds in the tapir’s thick skin around its belly, legs, and shoulders.
4. Paint your tapir's black fur, with a large patch of pale fur over its rear.
WILD FACT!
With its black-and-white pattern, a sleeping tapir can be mistaken for a large white rock by predators hunting after dark.
PANTHER
This large, black-furred cat crouches to keep a low profile as it sneaks up on its prey.
1. Sketch a curved body between two ovals. Add legs, making sure they bend in the correct way. The head is formed of two circles.
