About this ebook

Ramon Evelien’s unexpected arrival drenches Dr. Larke Christi in all the hot, forbidden memories of a love affair that was branded into the fabric of her being...memories of two men to whom she was bound forever in both body and soul. Yet only one of them had claimed her young heart as well. Has this man come back for her, or for something else...something she’s kept safe, as well as secret, for ten long years?

There was a place, a summer place, a sultry island paradise where Larke had felt safe, and warm, and loved. Ramon had been a wild island boy when she’d met him, the total opposite of his best friend, Andries Diedrick. It was Ramon with whom she had fallen head over heels in love that summer, but that hadn’t stopped her from also finding pleasure in the arms of Andries. For those few, short weeks, the three of them had been inseparable, sharing a once-in-a-lifetime passion that ran wild and rampant like the surging Caribbean sea beneath the blazing sun.

But a lot has happened since that searing summer, and Larke has put the past behind her. Yet Ramon’s sudden return opens the floodgate on a rush of searing memories best left in the past. Will she be able to resist the only man she’s ever loved with that depth of desire? Or is the gift of a grant to the college where she teaches really the only reason he’s returned? And what part did she play in gaining the grant for her employer? The blazing heat of summer is back...with a vengeance...

Adrianna Dane

Adrianna Dane has been putting pen to paper since the age of ten. She currently resides in the state of Washington. She has a great fondness for using a fountain pen when writing her first drafts. Hobby interests are varied, including photography and traveling. The first defining love story Adrianna read back in junior high school was "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte, and that set her on the road to her long-standing love affair with books of all genres. Her inspiration in writing often can be found by listening to song lyrics, from hard rock to classical, and reading poetry by such poets as Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Edgar Allen Poe, and Ranier Maria Rilke. But finding inspiration for her stories truly has no boundaries for Adrianna. In 2006, her dark fantasy GLBT story, Body Parts, won its category in the Dream Realm Awards. Adrianna has written more than 100 stories, short, novella, and novel length, delving into many facets of the human condition - contemporary, futuristic, and fantasy, and all the flavors therein and in between. In other words, wherever the story and the characters, as well as their intricate stories, take her imagination, then her pen and/or computer keyboard, are sure to follow.

Memories of Bonaire have fueled this story. This small island in the Caribbean is known as a diver’s haven, a retreat from busy life. One of the ABC islands just shy of the border of Venezuela, Bonaire’s rich history goes back thousands of years. It was many years ago that I visited Bonaire in the month of July, but I was pleased in my recent research to find that this Netherlands-Antilles island paradise continues to be recognized and to provide safe haven for its land, sea, wildlife, and sea inhabitants. The wild beauty of this island is truly a fitting place for these lovers and their passionate story.

    Chapter One

Naked. That was how she remembered him. The past shattered over Dr. Larke Christi at the year-end meeting for the faculty at Grantier College when she got the shock of her life. At first she didn’t think it was possible. And then, when he was being introduced, she thought she was seeing things. There was a huge chasm between what was taking place in the faculty room and the memories beginning to converge and take control of her thoughts.

At the forefront was an image of wild, island abandon. She remembered the first time she’d seen him. The hot glint of searing light on the wild curl of black hair tossed by the eastward winds. Locks that kissed the toasted silk of his broad, powerful surfer shoulders. Taut silky sorrel skin painted the color of expensive, dark chocolate by the intense rays of the Caribbean sun. Not a pale tan line in sight. Certainly none that was visible to her as she watched him.

He couldn’t be real. He was an ancient island god, especially to the wide-eyed girl of twenty that she’d been ten years ago. His arms were raised to the cerulean sky. Below him the powerful waves surged against the ragged, volcanic rock, again and again. The roar of violent wind and sea clashed and beat again the rock, and mist kissed his bare skin. But as if he were fashioned from the rugged black volcanic rock upon which he stood, it didn’t move him, and he seemed to command every violent blast of turbulence that surged and beat around him.

He had sculpted muscles, fluid and defined. Her gaze dropped to embrace the silhouette of the strong spear of cock that jutted upward from between his thighs.

Oh, my, she said under her breath.

She was afraid to move a muscle for fear that, like a wild animal or a meditative vision, he would take flight. Or simply disappear. She feared he would dive into the fierce white froth of surging ocean; that he would drown and she would never find out who he was. She was braced to charge forward. A masculine hand twined around her forearm, stopping her.

Not now, Andries said. Later. I’ll introduce you. This isn’t a good time. His ancestors are Arawak Indians and he has a habit of going native on occasion. He’s probably communing with the turtles or something and he wouldn’t take kindly to being disturbed right now. Come on, we better get back to the house. They’re expecting us for dinner anyway.

Andries Diedrick was the son of her parents’ friends. Her father’s business partner of many years, Larson Diedrick, had invited them to spend several weeks at his new summer villa. Five years
