Late Afternoon Poetry - Hendrick Puo Kekana
A Dedication
This book is written as a tribute to my maternal grandparents, Samuel and Pitsing Wilhelmina Motsepe, who I never had the privilege of meeting. I am, because you were! May they all be eternally blessed.
The Authorís Undertaking
Whilst the author, Hendrick Puo Kekana, acknowledges that he has drawn the contents of his verses from sermons and spiritual publications, the Bible, in particular, he does not at all seek to present himself as an expert in any of the written texts.
Where interpretations may sound or seem inappropriate or offensive, he sends his deepest apologies. The purpose of this publication is never to offend any of its readers. Whenever and wherever readers feel aggrieved or offended and correctly bring it to the author’s attention, the author shall, after consultation with all other concerned stakeholders and parties, endeavour to rectify the text, without compromising the gist and the spirit of the publication.
Fruitful and constructive comments and criticisms are also most welcomed. The author understands and knows that his growth can only come about at the interventions, recommendations and advice of the readers.

1. Listen To Me!
I am your conscience
I am not about science
I am about hallowed truth
I’m not validated by proof
I expose all that is unseen
Make it bare to the keen
I am more of a mystery
To be studied like history
I make a very silent noise
The unseen and true voice
I only talk to the so alert
‘Cause I am not like a pet
I call your head to reason
Your soul I do not imprison
Your life I truly want to make
And not to have it be a fake
Good morals I only uphold
Life of bliss I only unfold
I’m not swayed by sentiment
People I only call to repent
I promote only the good
For the soul, I serve holy food
I seek to correct your behaviour
That I do without any favour
I only call from within
With a voice that is thin
I stand for morality
I settle for normality
I encourage the divine
Not interests of mine
I fight against all things wrong
I make righteousness strong
I am only about right or wrong
People’s lives I seek to prolong
I am ideas and feelings within you
I want the righteous to earn their due
I appeal only to your blunt common sense
So your maker can bestow your inheritance
Listen, I do not promote any non-sense
Listen, I am your true and clear conscience!
2. A Plea To Love
Abundant love that calls from all corners,
Sweet love that rings out tender murmurs.
Love eternal that knows no human bounds,
That which dwells in all worldly sounds.
Come again to my heart and conquer me,
Get nearer to my heart; it’s never for a fee!
Everlasting love that traverses all paths.
Unfettered love that reigns in our hearts.
Love that fully understands all humankind,
Saunter to my heart so that you I may find.
Come slowly that my heart can be eased,
Conquer me that I
