The Blood of Jesus vs. Sin and Death

As the teaching of grace becomes increasingly popular, many now understand, more than ever, that sin is the reason and underlying factor for all sickness, disease, poverty, oppression, and death. Jesus Christ, by His sacrifice and blood shared on the cross, paid for all sin so that the "b

I am greatly indebted to the ministry, writing, teaching, and studies of others that have gone before me in helping me understand the gospel, the will of God, the power and authority of the new creation, and the topic being discussed in this book.

Prominent among these are the writing of E. W. Kenyon, Kenneth E. Hagin Sr, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, Andrew Murray, Watchman Nee, T. L. Osborne, and others too numerous to mention. I am really grateful to others, whose lives, leadership, and inspiration has touched me personally, especially those who have served as my pastor, mentor, or close friends in ministry like Archbishop Benson Idahosa, Chris Oyakhilome, Oje Ohiwere, Akpona and Jane Pela, Micheal and DeeDee Freman, Keith Moore, Tony and Cynthia Brazelton, Isaac and Evelyn Oribeoye, Toni and Lucy Okoh and Kayode and Ola Peter.

I am particularly grateful to my office staff, all the ordained ministers, and partners of Love Foundation International for standing by my wife and me and helping us fulfill God’s vision for us as a ministry.

I also want to use this opportunity to thank all the members of my immediate and extended family for all the support and sacrifice required to do God’s work, especially my children, some of which helped me in typing this manuscript.

My wife, Bridget, you are my greatest inspiration and support in writing this book apart from the Holy Spirit—I love you.

To God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit who has given me life, salvation, revelation, inspiration, strength, wisdom, provision, and everything else, including all the people mentioned above—To you be all the glory, honor, and praise. It is a great privilege and honor serving in the Kingdom.

This is from You and for You.

    Preamble

This book, Power Over Sin, has taken me over fifteen years to write. Not only because of the challenge of the topic itself but because of the many interacting principles of the Scripture that should be understood before one can grasp the intended message. Many fundamental principles of the gospel like faith, love, the triparted human nature, the renewing of the mind, redemption, the work of the Holy Spirit, the rapture of the church, etc. have to be explained and learned, even if in brief, to allow us to grasp the heart of this message. The explanations for these varied topics provided in the book are only brief and in no way comprehensive, as each of these topics would very well require more books and maybe even more than one for each topic to teach them properly.

My recommendation is that the reader broadens their knowledge of these topics by reading after credible materials, as that will enhance the appreciation of the message being taught here. I pray and believe that the brief explanation given to these other fundamental principles of the gospel will help anyone, even a new believer, enough to comprehend what is being discussed and to see its life application.

Writing this book has been one of my greatest challenges. Even though the Spirit of God began speaking to me over eighteen years ago, I have tried several times to start writing but just could not seem to get the flow of the Spirit I needed. I concluded that I was not ready to write it, or the time was not appropriate for it to be written. Since the first gleam of light concerning this book, I have studied and meditated on the Word of God, other books, and materials written by others, and I am now glad I did not write it then. My understanding and knowledge concerning the subject matter have grown with time, even though the Holy Spirit could very well have inspired me to write all He wanted me to write eighteen years ago if I was completely yielded.

I also believe that the timing of the writing and release of this book is critical because the church has greatly evolved since the first gleam of this revelation. There has become a great awareness and an awakening to the grace of God. In my previous books, Power Over Death and Grace A New Way to Holiness, I commented that the church has never really been taught to die to the law and not to mix grace with the law. That has greatly been fulfilled. So, whereas the church may not have been ready for this book eighteen years ago, I believe we are quite ready now, at least much more than we were eighteen years ago.

Finally, the church is getting ready for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He said He is coming for a glorious church, a church without spot, wrinkle, or blemish. We are that church; we are making ourselves ready for our Lord. We are being cleansed by the washing of water by the Word. There is an awakening by the Holy Spirit throughout the entire body of Christ, an awakening to the love of God, to the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit; an awakening to true righteousness and holiness, an awakening to the power and glory of God, and an awakening to the finished work of Jesus Christ. This is our finest hour. We are being changed from glory to glory to become an exact measure of the fullness of Christ. It will not be long now before all will be done, and we will be caught up in the sky to be with our Lord forever.

My prayer is that God will use this book to accomplish His purpose and glory of bringing the church to an awakening of the reality, of our redemption from sin and all of its impact on the human race by Christ Jesus. Now, we will see that we have not only been redeemed from sin and sin consciousness, but also by His indwelling presence in us, we have been given power over sin. Grace has not only imputed to us the righteousness of God but also imparted to us God’s righteousness. We are, therefore, righteous because not only our righteousness is credited to us by Christ’s obedience. We, too, by our new nature, recreated after God in true righteousness and holiness, have power over sin. We can now live as Jesus lived without sin by the same power through which He overcame sin. We are born of the same Spirit, filled with the same Holy Spirit, enabled by the Spirit to do the same things as He did, prominent among which was to have a sinless life that glorified His Father, who is also our Father.

We do not live a sinless life to become righteous because we are made righteous through His blood. But we live sinless lives because we have been made righteous. We, now, through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, have been made free from the Law of Sin and Death and the operation of God by the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. Get ready for a revelation that will not only transform your life but the entire church to the exact same glory of Jesus Christ Himself (Ephesians 4; 2 Corinthians 2; John 3).

    Introduction

The Almighty God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. He created the stars, planets, plants and animals, seas, oceans, and all that is in them. He created man and decked the earth with an abundance of beautiful things like silver, gold, diamonds, and precious stones. And yet, there is one thing that He did not create: sin. Sin entered all of God’s creation through one of God’s created beings. An archangel called Lucifer. However, sin itself was not a new creation but rather a perversion of what was already created. Sin entered what was created and became a major problem, threatening the very authority of God over what He has created.

Lucifer or Satan, as he is often called, desired to take over all of God’s creation and rule as supreme. Not submitting to God’s plan and purposes, he went about establishing his own plans. This was the origin of sin. Sin entered the world and death through sin when Adam, God’s custodian of the earth, yielded to Satan’s temptation. The whole of creation has adversely suffered since Satan invented sin. God’s good and perfect will for creation was impacted by Satan’s new invention. The result was sickness, disease, poverty, and death. Everything that was touched by sin began to decay, deviating from God’s original plan. This included the animals, the plants, and even the non-living things like silver and gold; all things began to disintegrate. Science calls it the half-life.

God would not allow Satan to take over or destroy His creation with sin. He created a perfect antidote to sin. A plan that would stop not only the progress of sin but also reverse all the damage previously done so that all of creation would return to God’s perfect plan as though sin never existed. This book will help you understand God’s plan and the part we have to play in destroying sin and bringing all of creation back to God’s perfect will.

Be ready for life’s greatest adventure as we venture into God’s plan and purpose for our lives and all of creation—discovering our partnership with God in bringing all of God’s creation under one authority, Christ. This He accomplished in Christ Jesus when He died for our sin and was raised from the dead by the glory of God. Thereby not only releasing us from the dominion of Satan but giving us the privilege with Him to undo all of the works of Satan by giving us Power Over Sin.

    Chapter 1

What is Sin? (The Mystery of Iniquity)

    What Is Sin?

This is a profound question, a question that needs proper attention and answer.

Sin is a nature that is different and opposed to God’s nature. A nature that will not submit to God’s will and goes about doing its own will. It’s the nature of unbelief and disobedience, a nature of rebellion against God and His will. It is the nature of Satan.

To many, when we talk of sin, think about adultery, fornication, lying, stealing, and the like. Although all those are sins, sin itself goes deeper than that (Galatians 5:13–26).

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21, KJV).

Sin is not just an act but a personality. Sin is a noun, not just a verb. The acts of sin are only products or activities of the nature of sin. Sin is the nature of the devil, passed on to the children and subjects of the devil. There would not be acts of sin if there was not the nature of sin. The acts of sin indicate the presence of the spirit or nature of sin. To deal with sin, we have to go beyond dealing with the acts or mere symptoms of sin; we have to deal with the root of sin. The nature of sin itself (himself).

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother (1 John 3:10, KJV).

The Nature and Origin of Sin

There are many words translated as sin in the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments. Prominent among the words in the Old Testament are:

Iniquity—Hebrew: Avon or Aval; meaning to bend, twist, distort, pervert, bow down, evil (Genesis 15:16).¹²

    Transgression—Hebrew: hematoma.³

    Trespasses—Hebrew: Porsha.

    Offenses—Hebrew: Paraptoma.

    Guilt—Hebrew: Asham.

    Error, faults, or failure—Hebrew: Chet.

    To miss the mark—Hebrew: Chata.

    To go astray—Hebrew: Shagag.

All these definitions express the various characteristics and descriptions of sin. However, they all can be summed up into two essential definitions:

    A) The Nature of Sin (Iniquity).

    B) The Act of Sin (Transgression), which essentially covers all the other definitions of sin above except iniquity.

    The Nature of Sin (Iniquity)

Sin is the nature, attitude, or disposition that is rebellious against God and His will. A spirit or heart that will not submit to God or His Word. Iniquity takes on personality or a state of the heart and mind before any word is uttered or any action is taken. Iniquity is the nature of sin—a personality of rebellion against God and all that is good and godly. A personality twisted from God’s original plan and creation to a perverted nature that rebels against the will and purpose of God. This is often referred to in scriptures as sin (singular) and a noun (John 1:29; Isaiah 27:6).

    The Act of Sin (Transgression)

Actions or activities produced by such a nature or attitude are referred to in scriptures as sins (plural), a verb.

So, sin is essentially a rebellious spirit or attitude, a condition of the heart. This then produces sins or sinful actions. The action of sin is what is referred to as sins, transgressions, errors, or trespasses, which actually means to miss the mark or to fall short of God’s standard.

Dealing with sinful acts without dealing with the nature of sin is pointless because the nature of sin will continue to reproduce the acts of sin or other forms of sin, e.g., dealing with the symptoms of a disease instead of the disease itself.

The problem with the Law of Moses was that it could only regulate the acts of sin but had no power to deal with the nature of sin. The children of Israel were given commandments that told them God’s will and purpose for them at the time. The problem was that instead of the law helping them obey God’s will, the nature of sin in them caused them to go in the exact opposite direction. So, the law kind of awakened the nature of sin to rebel against God’s Word.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

    Romans 5:12–14 (KJV)

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Moreover, the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

    Romans 5:19–21 (KJV)

For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of
