In gratitude lies the unimaginable form of pride, wherein he who knows those who helped him rise seeks none of what others deem their prize. In gratitude lies this prize. Hence, the Epicurean saying:
The fool’s life is empty of gratitude and full of tears.
And, my pride fathomed blossoming in times of need; when I longed for eyes to read my sonnets and their timeless tales of tragedy, love, and greed. Yes, even in my acknowledgements I appear to unconsciously rhyme as though lyrics have been shed, but that is the reality of my proudest hour as I say my thanks to those who served my book its worth.
The first in which I shall indebt my thankfulness to is, as egoistic as it sounds, me. To be more precise, my younger self who grew this ambition which led me to where I confidently stand today. As Narcissus powered his life by his own self-adornment, he knew of what capabilities he carried; henceforth, the daffodil bloomed to honor his name, and so one is bound to grow and honor mine.
While on the lane of honor, my life-long companion and sister, Lien, is the one of few persons who strives to wear her glory when my accomplishments reach the stage. Lien, with deepest sincerity, I thank you and your solemn heart; which tends to share itself with those deserving. I thank your tears that fell in every crevice where you felt the hearts of others. With deepest sincerity, I thank you.
My parents, birth givers, and truest supporters, it is now the time for you to read your part of my acknowledgements. The stars made their decision clear when they opted in your union; your most poetic union. And in this union came your being pillars to my stature, novelty, and success. With deepest sincerity, I thank you.
Justly, whose name also deserves a place in this piece of writing is my ever loving grandmother. Grandma, in my most keen mind, I say thank you for all your feverish love given to me; all this feverish love that never stops giving. With deepest sincerity, I thank you.
My cousin and eldest sister, Tala, you always find ways of knowing where you stand, and in that, where you stand in my life. Earnest, joyous, and full of brilliant philosophies, you happily take pride in my balladry; with them you are familiar with. Therefore, I thank you. With deepest sincerity, I thank you.
Lastly, all you editors, managers, and designers, I thank you for your infinite efforts in projecting my success and writings to the world, for your wondrous visionaries, and your exceedingly vigorous amount of patience with my outrageous meticulousness. With deepest sincerity, I thank you.
To my sister, father, mother, and cat, Chanel.
To my younger self; this book is the one you longed for since you’d gotten familiar with lyrical writing and the power it boldly wore. This is the moment you and I take pride in what is held in our hands at this unforgettable time– pride in the power of this time alike that of the words we order to dance.
