    Author’s Note

Nadine’s Sunflower began as a poem, born in the middle of a fall night. It became clear to me that it didn’t fit in my first poetry book nor my second. It wasn’t long before I realized that this four-line poem was meant to be a short story. A novella about a girl with a gentle heart longing to be free and loved. The following pages were not always planned, but they all convey the importance of saying something when you see something.
