Dr. Barry Denzil Haney grew up in Kentucky. He has been happily married to his wife, Judy, for fifty years. He has three married daughters and six grandchildren. He graduated from medical school in 1979 and honorably served in the United States Navy for thirty years, retired in 1999. Our life journey may not always be rosy. In this book, I attempt to guide the reader along the rocky, narrow path of Marshmello’s journey to personal salvation, using the charming, animated characters living in Muse Hollow. In this magical world, I use Christian allegory to describe Marshmello’s harrowing, rocky road to salvation. During his journey, I introduce several characters living in Muse Hollow, weaving them into the fabric of the tale of Marshmello’s journey to salvation.

The book centers on a battle between good and evil in the world of Gamaliel. Many of the adult inhabitants living in Muse Hollow are fighting and dying in a spiritual battle occurring in the evil kingdom, many sacrificing their lives for Aydan. The spiritual battle taking place directly affects Marshmello, forcing him to travel to Muse Hollow for refuge. When he arrives in Muse Hollow, the inhabitants discover Marshmello is not saved! This begins Marshmello’s rocky road to salvation, climaxing with a miraculous event forever changing Marshmello’s life and the lives of many of the inhabitants of Muse Hollow.

Although the book is appropriate for all readers, parental guidance is recommended for children less than eight, because of the mild violence associated with Marshmello’s attempt to flee from Muse Hollow. In addition, the Christian values shared can be somewhat complex for younger children, possibly requiring interpretation by an adult.

Several themes relevant to both children and adults are introduced during the unraveling of the story, including but not limited to salvation, friendship, reconciliation, repentance, baptism, and love.

I hope the book provides the family with a positive message they can share about God’s immutable love, a love that is respectful, humble, selfless, honest, and comforting. During this time of increased pain and suffering, I hope this book provides you with hope, the hope only God can provide us when He promises us a place at the table with Him in Heaven; when He makes this promise to us, we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus!

The Cave

Christopher, I am sending you immediately to Muse Hollow, to protect Bear! The ancient prophecy begins!

As Aydan speaks, Christopher nervously kneels in the heavenly throne room. Aydan is the Creator God of the world of Gamaliel, where Muse Hollow is located. As Christopher listens, he is overcome with the beauty of the throne Aydan is sitting on. Its appearance is like a clear crystal, and beneath the throne streams of flaming fire radiate. Aydan, a black lion, is dressed in a brilliant white gown, whiter than snow, which is shining more brightly than the sun. Christopher finds it difficult to look directly at Aydan’s face.

Aydan continues, Bear is going to play a very important role during these treacherous times. You are responsible for protecting him.

Almost immediately, in a blinding flash of bright light, Christopher finds himself in a dark cave, staring down at Bear.

Christopher is startled at the scene as he watches Bear tossing, turning, and moaning, apparently experiencing a dreadful nightmare.

As he watches this scene unfold, he wonders why Aydan assigned him to be Bear’s guardian angel. Although it is an honor to be Bear’s protector, it is also painful for Christopher to watch Bear suffer!

Christopher knows Bear is a very compassionate person who would give anyone the shirt off his back to help them. But Christopher knows this selflessness can be used by the evil one in an attempt to defeat Aydan’s plan. Christopher also knows Bear, after graduating from the Great Circle School last spring, is unsure of what he wants to do with his life, because of his lack of self-confidence, a character trait developed during his childhood, when many of Bear’s so-called friends made fun of him because of his small stature. Although Bear is on the small side, Christopher senses a hidden strength.

Bear’s secret desire is to be a psychiatrist, to help others struggling with their emotions and, most importantly, to understand why people are so mean to one another. But his parents want him to be a pastor, like his brother Clay, who recently graduated from the seminary in Capital City. At least he could help others and possibly later on become a religious counselor. But Bear is not sure about the latter, because recently he has been questioning his religious beliefs.

Christopher is glad Bear was recently assigned as the caretaker of Muse Hollow, an honor for someone so young. The last caretaker died recently. Because of Bear’s character, the Divine Council appointed him as the new caretaker.

As he watches Bear struggle, Christopher realizes the ancient prophecy is beginning, and he shudders! He ponders the horrible perils Bear might face in the coming days, and most importantly, will he be able to help Bear overcome any challenges he might face?

Bear suddenly awakens, startled by the clattering of dishes in the kitchen. Covered in cold sweat, his heart racing, he tries to remember the nightmare he was experiencing, which is quickly fading away. In the dream, a small white dog is pinned to the ground by a coyote, moaning, begging for his life as the coyote, mouth wide open, lunges forward for the final kill!

Shivering, Bear rubs his eyes and tries to fully awaken. He smells the aroma of his mom’s cooking in the kitchen, with the sweet fragrance of honey and porridge lingering in the air. He jumps out of bed, aware of the coolness of the air and the lumpy, damp bed of earth and rocks making up the cave floor beneath his feet. He quickly throws on his clothes and runs to the kitchen.

His father is sitting on his chair, reading from the Great Book. To the left and behind the kitchen table, he sees the glowing, red-hot embers of the fire in the stone fireplace. He feels the welcoming warmth of the fire as it hits him in the face, and notices his mother
