    Preface

    Luke 14:15–23 (EXB) says,

One of those at the table [L reclining; see 5:29] with Jesus heard these things and said to him, Blessed [Happy] are the people who will share in the meal [L eat bread] in God’s kingdom [C an allusion to the messianic banquet at the end of time; see 13:29; Is. 25:6–8].

Jesus said to him, A man gave a big [great] banquet and invited many people. When it was time to eat, the man sent his servant [slave] to tell the guests [C who had accepted the invitation], ‘Come. Everything is ready.’ But all the guests [one after another; or in a similar manner] began to make excuses [C a great offense in that culture]. The first one said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go look at it. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five·pairs [L yoke] of oxen; I must go and try them. Please excuse me.’ A third person said, ‘I just got married; I can’t come [C while newly married men were exempt from certain duties (Deut. 24:5), that is not a valid excuse for offending the host].’ So, the servant [slave] returned and told his master what had happened. Then the master [L of the household] became angry and said, ‘Go at once into the ·streets [squares] and ·alleys [lanes] of the town, and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ Later [L And] the ·servant [slave] said to him, ‘Master, I did what you commanded, but we still have room. The master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes [hedgerows], and urge [compel] the people there to come so my house will be full’ [C those outside the city may refer to the Gentiles, who will come into the kingdom (see Acts 10– 11)].

We stress in the beginning of this book that we make no appeal to people to come to Jesus Christ so they may be blessed. We make no appeal to people to come to Jesus Christ to gain materially. We make no appeal to people to come to Jesus Christ in order to prosper personally above others, and we certainly, make no appeal to people to come to Jesus Christ so they may be wealthy. But we do appeal to people to come to Jesus Christ for who He is! Just like the wise men of old who came all the way from the East to offer their best to the King of the Jews without invitation because they had seen His star, His glory, the one everyone will render their accounts to, the one who is worthy to be worshipped, praised, and adored—the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Blessed is the name of the Lord. Amen.

The time is too critical for us to be busy fooling around with our playthings. We must rise to the challenge. The church, like the Levite’s concubine in the book of Judges, is being raped and defiled in broad daylight by the doctrines of humans, the leaven of the Pharisees! Where are the people of valor, people of strength, and people of vigor, like Gideon, who will go out in the power of the Spirit and face the enemy? Where are the people of God, like David, who will face the bear, the lion, and ultimately the uncircumcised flesh (Goliath), and the mere religion in the form of Christianity by the power of the Spirit? People of God, where are the sons of God in the manner of the sons of Jacob, Simeon, and Levi who will revenge the rape of Dinah in the face of Shechem? Brothers and sisters in Christ, we ask where are the priests of the Most High God who are clothed in righteousness, who will blow the trumpet, and who will sound the call to battle?

The Red Sea was parted not by human wisdom but by divine intervention. The walls of Jericho (the stronghold of the devil, the mind of the flesh) have fallen not by human strength but by divine intervention. Lazarus is resurrected after being in the grave for four days not by human ingenuity but by the Word of God—the Divine Intervener. The walls of Jericho have fallen —not shall fall but have fallen; the entire city must be devoted to the Lord. Let us march forward without fear.

Jesus Christ reigns! The Holy Spirit testifies, and victory is ours in the name of the Lord. He is enthroned in heaven and in the hearts of believers, so is He really enthroned in your heart? Is He King and Lord? Does He have all of you? Have you offered your body as a living sacrifice to Him? Our priority is God, and our vocation is also God. Our calling is heavenly, and so is our standing. Christ is first in order, rank, time, and priority. He must be first, second, third, the center, the circumference, anything in between, and ultimately the all in all. Let us give God what is due to Him: the very best of our lives without reserve.

The call of the Father is above any profession (vocation), secular or otherwise. When it comes to the kingdom of God, there is nothing too great not to leave or forsake. Be it the land; the kingdom of God encompasses all other lands known or unknown, trodden or untrodden. Be it the assets of any sort; these are added in the kingdom. Be it the affections of the soul and whatever more; nothing is too great not to forsake. The men in the previous parable proved to be very foolish for turning down so great an invitation because of their personal needs. The life union between God and humankind through Jesus Christ our Lord in perfect peace no one can fully comprehend. We are invited to dine with the Father in all His splendor, beauty, and glory. What an invitation! What an honor! Such a privilege! This is why we must seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

The Buck, the Lion, and the Word

In this illustration, both the buck and the lion pray. The buck is being chased by a lioness. The lioness hasn’t eaten for days, and her cubs are dying of hunger. So, she starts praying to God, saying, Oh, God Almighty, please provide me with this buck for a meal. Oh, how desperately I need to feed my family. I have nowhere else to go other than to turn to You, Almighty One. Amen.

And in the very moment the lioness prayed, the buck also started to pray, saying, Almighty God, deliver me from the mouth of this hungry beast! I can’t die now. What would become of my babies? They are too young to be left alone. God, I beg for Your mercy. Deliver me from the mouth of this deadly lioness!

Both the lioness and the buck are staunch believers in God and in the power of prayer.

Now, if you were God, which prayer would you answer and why? Try to answer before you read the following.

The buck needs life, and the lioness needs meat. God is the provider. This implies He must provide for His creatures without partiality, for He is God the Provider. By one stroke of ingenuity from on high, He shall provide meat for the hungry and life and safety for the needy so as to keep His word that He is God the Provider. You may ask, How? Through the mighty cross of Jesus Christ! He will provide meat, the flesh of Christ, for the lioness, so she will never go hungry again or pray for any meal, for that matter, for Christ says, Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them (John 6:53–56). He will provide His body as the substitute for the buck’s life so that it will go on having life, His life, the resurrection life. Then the lioness has meat, His flesh. And the buck has life, His life, the exchanged life. The prophecy of Isaiah would then have come to pass:

The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat the straw like the ox, and dust shall be serpent’s food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain says the Lord (Is. 65:25)

    God is faithful.

Lions take a dry fast in the presence of the Holy One, for they cannot eat the holy vessels. Ask Daniel. The weak say they are strong as they boast in the Lord their Redeemer, their Savior, their peace, and their righteousness. As such, whom shall they fear—or shall we ask, what shall we fear? For greater —and He will be made greater still, today and forever—is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Suddenly, the impossible has become the Himpossible, as Devern Fromke (The Ultimate Intention) would
