- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fun and interactive book about manners, and being grateful for what you have.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a good book for young children who have a problem with not getting their way. The illustrations are cute. My kids really enjoyed it. (Even though one was throwing a fit because she wanted a different story.)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In my opinion, this is a very positive and entertaining book. I think that readers can learn a lot from this book because many children can relate to Melvin’s mentality. The character development was believable because many children throw a fit when they don’t get what they want. In addition, some children can be manipulative and act out more at home just like Melvin did, because his “…family doesn’t know a thing about that terrible rule.” However, Melvin soon realizes that the rule works best when enforced at school and at home. When Melvin realizes this, it teaches a lesson to readers and sends a message that you can’t always get what you want and if you don’t then you need to be a good sport. I also liked how some words in the sentences were big and bolded. This put emphasis on how the character was feeling and really got the reader to understand how badly Melvin wanted things or disliked things. Overall, this book is a great book for teaching about behavior and is very positive.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Great rhythm, quick read, and my 3yr old liked it in spite of it being a lesson he needs.
The art is charming, the words flow well, and the moral is well presented. It is a great book for a toddler.
