    INTRODUCTION

This book contains my walk abouts, taking pictures of what I found interesting, and then writing about them

It also has a housing study, when I went on a field trip to Finland, Helsinki. I was just walking around taking in the sights and taking pictures. I put them all on disc and forgot about them for a while. Then all of sudden after listening to my father I decided to write about, why I took the picture in the first place, all of a sudden I had 20 images and 20 sheets of writing I knew then that I was starting to develop a book.

I then took a number of my design projects, some drawings and some images and further writings and added these to the book.

The book was my brother Martin’s idea he just said get it together and get it up. It’s done.

    1. Turner’s House

This is Turner’s House in Totteridge Lane built in the most classical design with ornate dutch, gable, ends and stonework bands going all around the perimeter on this grand new building. This brickwork is your highest English craftsmanship; every time I pass this house on my way through Totteridge I can see it has this giant aura about it. It is one of a kind built with the utmost care by a team of brickwork specialists Ian Turner and his brother, John Lewis and Neil Young. I was also a member of the team but I was working on a Royal household in Hertfordshire. This is where Turner’s brickwork had another project building accommodation for their staff and friends. They were built in your finest traditional styles, hand crafted with handmade bricks and lime mortar. I know an England international footballer bought one of the apartments in Totteridge with his wife some time ago.

    2. Housing at Biggerstaff Street, Finsbury Park, London N4 3PH

This is housing within a housing estate. Meaning this went up within an existing development. I like this project as a solution for housing in a tight space, it was built at a time of mass migration the biggest since the second world war, all around the world it was quite euphoric, the sense of people walking, sailing thousands of miles to escape war torn areas and poverty to come to England where we sustain some sense of normality, order and structure, all to enhance their stance on life.

This building was built on the ground floor with engineering bricks most of which I laid myself, and the RC frame was car cased out with well-engineered concrete blocks with the appropriately added Newton’s.

There is a framework of block with white resin based rendering surrounding big dark grey rectangles with loads of little ones in it, all made of simplified materiality
