Liz Beckett is grief-stricken when her beloved husband of thirty-five years dies after a long battle with cancer. Her daughter and best friend insist she needs a project to keep her occupied. Liz decides to share the beauty of Crystal Crescent Beach with those who visit the beautiful east coast of Nova Scotia and prepares to embark on the adventure of her life. She moves into the converted art studio at the bottom of her garden and turns the old family home into The Crystal Crescent Inn.
One of her first visitors is famous archeologist, Merc MacGill, and he's not there to admire the view. The handsome bachelor believes there's an undiscovered eighteenth-century farmstead hidden inside the creeks and coves of Crystal Crescent, and Liz wants to help him find it.
But it's not all smooth sailing at the inn that overlooks the historic Sambro Lighthouse. No one has realized it yet, but the lives of everyone in Liz's family are intertwined with those first settlers who landed in Nova Scotia over two hundred and fifty years ago. Will they be able to unravel the mystery? Will the lives of Liz's two children be changed forever if they discover the link between the lighthouse and their old home?
Take a trip to Crystal Crescent Beach and join Liz, her family, and guests as they navigate the storms and calm waters of life and love under the watchful eye of the lighthouse and its secret.

Sylvia Price first met Mennonite missionaries in Montréal when she was 13 years old. She was captivated by their faithfulness to Christ, their politeness, their calm lifestyle—especially in comparison to the bustle of a major city—and how they could enjoy the simplest things to the fullest. When they opened their home for her to stay with them for three weeks, she was made to feel like family. Their enduring legacy in her life was to get her a library card and to start reading for her to cope with the loss of television and radio. With a new-found appreciation for books, Sylvia set her sights to college then seminary in service of the Lord. She now spends her time writing, hoping to inspire the next generation to read more stories.

A re ye happy in Halifax , Husband?
Mistress Joan Hammond, daughter of Nevis and Margaret Allardice, once Laird and Lady Allardice in the Highlands of Scotland but now proud Nova Scotians of some twenty years standing, was seated in the small front parlor, busy with some darning. The past winter weather had been hard on her family’s woolen socks.
Joan looked up and awaited her husband’s reply. When she had met and been wooed by Henry Hammond all those years ago, he had been a brave, young British soldier. Every day had brought with it the distinct possibility of death and scalping—ritual mutilation being a common occurrence during the long and bitter frontier warfare between the Acadians and Mi′kmaq, and the British.
But since the signing of a peace treaty fourteen years ago, Henry Hammond had been relegated to a clerkship for the Royal Navy dockyard—solid if unexciting work. It had allowed the young couple to maintain a comfortable life in the burgeoning town of Halifax and raise their brood of seven children in relative security and stability.
And yet, Joan often caught her husband looking out of the windows as though disgruntled with his lot, staring at the dark, impenetrable forests on the surrounding drumlin hills with a wistful expression on his face. His eyes had dimmed from all the transcribing he did by candlelight in the colder months, and the fingers on his right hand had crabbed from holding a quill for ten hours a day.
But ‘tis better than him being out in those cursed forests, looking over the shoulder for a man carrying a hatchet with which to take off the top of one’s pate!
However, Joan had always held her husband in deep affection and did not like to see him gloomy.
Well?
she asked when he turned toward her, Are ye happy here?
Henry shrugged and sighed. ’Tis a living, I suppose.
Joan knew the time was ripe for her suggestion. She placed the sock she was darning onto her lap and said calmly, I propose we leave Halifax, Henry dear. Mother and Father have been established at The Creek for many a year now. My three brothers live well there too—plenty of fishing, forest foraging, and fruit trees a-plenty! Broehain writes me to say if he does not exercise his pony regularly, the poor beast grows fat as a flawn!
At her words, Henry Hammond perked up. He sat straight in his chair and looked at his wife with interest.
You never say so, my dear. Why, I thought it quite wild there! The inhabitants of Sambrough are always coming to Halifax to buy the trifles and trinkets so necessary for elegant living. And your parents live even further away than that.
Joan laughed, saying, Father chose to live where he could see the lighthouse—in case he could render service to those poor souls who foundered their ships. With the trails being cleared into cart tracks every day, he is now but a scant day’s journey away from Halifax if he chooses to visit here—which he don’t. He never took sides during the war, preferring to observe his belief that all are equal in the eyes of God, so the homestead was always left alone to prosper.
Joan watched her husband carefully listening to her encouraging words; she decided to
