GRATITUDE 1: PRAISE
Thomas has served as an inspirational and productive force in my educational and professional career. As my design instructor at Emily Carr University, Thomas had and uncanny ability to challenge his students for the purpose of becoming proficient problem solvers, by encouraging outside the box thinking, and offering fresh perspective. Since completing the Interaction Design Program at ECUAD, Thomas continues to be a great mentor to myself and others. Thomas’s commitment to his craft is astonishing.
– Cleveland Stordy
I feel extremely lucky to have had Thomas as an instructor at Emily Carr University. From the get-go he pushes his students to get outside their comfort zone and be the best they can be. You can feel he genuinely cares about his students and their journey to succeed, which was so refreshing and gratifying. I also appreciated his unique teaching methods, like the daily head dumps (which were a constant source of inspiration) and his hands-on approach to learning. He gave us the space to explore our creativity while always being available for feedback and direction when we needed it. Thomas is a natural-born mentor so if you get the chance to have him as an instructor, take it!!
– Jennifer Phan
Thomas is an exceptional instructor and designer. As an instructor, Thomas is completely devoted to sharing his craft with his students. The way he teaches is engaging and genuine and he is extremely adept at getting students involved. His knowledge of UX design processes and patterns is expansive and he demonstrates this in the constructive feedback he provides. As a result, I have looked forward to every one of his classes and the ideas and methods I have learned from them have been fundamental to my design practice. Thomas also has an uncanny ability of identifying our strengths and weaknesses and tailoring our learning experience accordingly to maximize the potential of every student in the class. He is truly dedicated to ensuring that all his students succeed and he always makes himself available for extra help and mentorship, even outside of class hours. I am very grateful to have been a part of his mobile app design course. Thank you Thomas!
– Brian Cheng
I had the pleasure of having Thomas as my teacher for Mobile Application Design. His teaching methods were inspiring and encouraging. UI research was never my forte, however after taking his class I learnt to enjoy the process. Thomas gave very useful feedback and really pushes his students out of their comfort zone and forces us to try new things. He’s incredibly supportive and you can tell he really cares for each student. Thank you so much Thomas for such an amazing and unique learning experience!
– Caitlin Steward
I first encountered Thomas as my instructor for Mobile App Design in the Emily Carr Interaction Design Certificate Program. Thomas is a highly enthusiastic and perceptive instructor. He shares his unparalleled knowledge of design processes with the students in a way that builds our confidence while shaping our understanding. He has a talent for quickly identifying a student’s strengths and helping them to advance their ideas based on those core skills. Thanks to his instruction and feedback, I feel ready to take on any challenge the field may throw at me. I strongly endorse Thomas for any creative and educational role.
