What Is Time Crystal
In condensed matter physics, a time crystal is a quantum system of particles whose lowest-energy state is one in which the particles are in repetitive motion. The system cannot lose energy to the environment and come to rest because it is already in its quantum ground state. Because of this the motion of the particles does not really represent kinetic energy like other motion, it has "motion without energy". Time crystals were first proposed theoretically by Frank Wilczek in 2012 as a time-based analogue to common crystals whereas the atoms in crystals are arranged periodically in space, the atoms in a time crystal are arranged periodically in both space and time. Several different groups have demonstrated matter with stable periodic evolution in systems that are periodically driven. In terms of practical use, time crystals may one day be used as quantum memories.

Preface
Why did I write this book?
The story of writing this book started on 1989, when I was a student in the Secondary School of Advanced Students.
It is remarkably like the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Schools, which are now available in many advanced countries.
STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. This term is typically used to address an education policy or a curriculum choice in schools. It has implications for workforce development, national security concerns and immigration policy.
There was a weekly class in the library, where each student is free to choose any book and read for 1 hour. The objective of the class is to encourage the students to read subjects other than the educational curriculum.
In the library, while I was looking at the books on the shelves, I noticed huge books, total of 5,000 pages in 5 parts. The books name is The Encyclopedia of Technology
, which describes everything around us, from absolute zero to semiconductors, almost every technology, at that time, was explained with colorful illustrations and simple words. I started to read the encyclopedia, and of course, I was not able to finish it in the 1-hour weekly class.
So, I convinced my father to buy the encyclopedia. My father bought all the technology tools for me in the beginning of my life, the first computer and the first technology encyclopedia, and both have a great impact on myself and my career.
I have finished the entire encyclopedia in the same summer vacation of this year, and then I started to see how the universe works and to how to apply that knowledge to everyday problems.
My passion to the technology started mor than 30 years ago and still the journey goes on.
This book is part of The Encyclopedia of Emerging Technologies
which is my attempt to give the readers the same amazing experience I had when I was in high school, but instead of 20th century technologies, I am more interested in the 21st century emerging technologies, applications, and industry solutions.
The Encyclopedia of Emerging Technologies
will consist of 365 books, each book will be focused on one single emerging technology. You can read the list of emerging technologies and their categorization by industry in the part of Coming Soon

The presence of crystals in nature is an example of spontaneous symmetry breaking, which occurs when the lowest-energy state of a system is less symmetrical than the equations that control the system. The periodic crystal's lower discrete symmetry replaces the continuous translational symmetry in space in the crystal ground state. Because the rules of physics are symmetrical under continuous translations in both time and space, the topic of whether it is possible to violate symmetry temporally and so produce a time crystal
immune to entropy surfaced in 2012.
When a discrete time translation symmetry is violated (as may occur in regularly driven systems), the system is referred to as a discrete time crystal. Because it is a type (or phase) of non-equilibrium matter, a discrete time crystal never achieves thermal equilibrium. Time symmetry can only be broken in non-equilibrium systems.

Frank Wilczek proposed the concept of a quantized time crystal in 2012.
In reaction to Wilczek and Zhang, Patrick Bruno (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) and Masaki Oshikawa (University of Tokyo) released a number of essays claiming that space-time crystals were not conceivable.
Subsequent work refined the criteria of time translation symmetry-breaking, leading to the Watanabe-Oshikawa no-go
declaration that quantum space-time crystals in equilibrium are not feasible.
Later, several realizations of time crystals were proposed that avoided the equilibrium no-go arguments.
In 2016, researchers at Princeton and UC Santa Barbara proposed that regularly driven quantum spin systems could exhibit comparable behavior. In March 2017, both experiments were published in the same issue of Nature.
Later, a group led by Tilman Esslinger at ETH Zurich proposed dissipative time crystals, which are many body quantum systems that break continuous time translation symmetry by coupling to an external bath.
In 2019 physicists Valerii Kozin and Oleksandr Kyriienko proved that, in theory, a permanent quantum time crystal can exist as an isolated system if the system contains unusual long-range multiparticle interactions. The original no-go
argument only holds in the presence of typical short-range fields that decay as quickly as r−α for some α>0. Kozin and Kyriienko instead analyzed a spin-1/2
