Chapter 1

Darren was on his way home from work early. He was biting his nails and was not excited for the conversation he was about to have with his wife, Alice. He had just lost his job at the only accounting firm in town. Alice was an interior designer, and while her job allowed her to work with clients outside the town, she was still a smaller name so they both worked for the life they had. They would not be able to afford their current lifestyle on either partner’s income alone. The house wasn’t that impressive, it was a two-bed and two-bath, but it was the taxes and the overall cost of living just outside of the major cities that drove prices up.

When he got home, Darren heard laughing coming from the dining area where he found Alice and her friend Tiffany sharing a bottle of wine. No doubt they were gossiping about other girls in the town. They had a habit of gossiping, and sometimes Darren listened in.
