Stephanie knew from the moment she stepped into the kitchen that something was terribly wrong. She was almost afraid to look. The smell of her secret recipe, slow cook bread, usually greeted her when she walked in the door.

It was the main reason she bothered to set it up late at night. The dense, cake-like bread was slowly becoming a customer favorite but she really baked it for herself. Since she had started this business on her own, she liked to have something warm to welcome her.

She walked to the oven and peered in. The bread hadn’t risen at all. She placed her hand on the top of the stove. It was stone cold. She took a deep breath to quell the panic that was starting to build. If the stove didn’t work, then she couldn’t bake any of today’s orders.
