    OVERVIEW

F*ck Feelings by Michael Bennett, MD, and Sarah Bennett is a self-help book with a pragmatic outlook on the types of change that individuals can expect in their lives given a specific set of circumstances. Most advice runs counter to the big promises made by other self-help books, stating instead that there are some things that readers will be able to change, some things they want to change but cannot, and unintended consequences to even the most well-meaning action.

Many of the mental characteristics people seek to treat are genetic and fairly normal, even if they are self-destructive. Realistic expectations and self-respect are the keys to feeling control, increasing productivity, and quashing negativity. Most problems cannot be solved by seeking their root cause, and instead should be managed. Realistically, treating an addiction requires an objective outlook and the ability to measure progress without judgment.

Issues like lack of self-esteem, the pursuit of justice, and the impulse to help others should be approached with objectivity, a lack of unfair criticism, realistic consideration of whether an action will help and who it might harm, and positivity without judgment for what the subject did or did not do correctly. The same basic advice applies in various ways to individuals who seek inner peace, romantic relationships, stronger relationships through clear communication, confidence in raising children, and a way to deal with difficult people.

Anyone seeking treatment should be well informed about the types of treatment
