    Overview

    The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (2007) is a thorough look at the lessons in leadership the author, John Maxwell, has learned in his years as a pastor, leadership mentor, and consultant. This is the tenth anniversary edition of the book.

    There are 21 separate laws of leadership, although not every leader will be able to consider each one a personal strength. Instead, even natural leaders should consider their skills to be subject to improvement. If one law is too difficult for a leader to uphold, he or she should share leadership with people who make up for those weaknesses.

    The laws extend from the properties of a leader to the characteristics of followers and their relationships to the leader. For example, the Law of the Lid states that a leader’s accomplishments are limited by his or her skill as a leader. Further, the Law of Empowerment maintains that leaders who are comfortable with their roles will give power to others, and the Law of Magnetism holds that followers are attracted to leaders who have similar characteristics, strengths, or weaknesses.

    Maxwell learned numerous leadership lessons from his career as a pastor from 1981-1995 at Skyline Church, where he directed a massive construction project. He exercised his skills to ensure that all church members were comfortable with the investment and felt involved with the planning,
