If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else

    —Marvin Gaye

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to Black women everywhere. Many of you are out here thriving in environments that weren’t made for you to succeed. 2020 and 2021 were brutal, and you made it. You worked from home and homeschooled your kids. Some of you went to work and still had to figure out how to homeschool your kids. You consoled them when they were upset about missing out on life because of this pandemic. You were creative and tried to find ways to keep things going. Some of you were alone most of that time and found yourselves feeling lonely and afraid. You managed to make it through the last election cycle, which was no small feat. You felt real grief and sadness every time we lost a Black life to the hands of law enforcement, then you went to work in environments where people couldn’t begin to understand your pain. Many of you experienced lows that you’ve never seen before, and you may have even wondered if you would come out of them.

Now here you are, ready to put the work in to begin reclaiming that little peace that the past couple of years whittled away. I am excited and honored that you are taking this walk with me as we work to carve out our own paths to peace.

    About the Author

    Preface

Let me tell you how I learned that I was living an unpeaceful existence. Early on in 2020, before we really knew what the year would look like, I was working out of state for a month. I was going to spend the entire month alone and thought that it would be great. I love my husband and kids, but I am an extreme introvert, so spending time alone is how I recharge. I thought that being alone for a month would give me freedom from the
