Within the book, Torema shares her personal testimony of how God has helped her to overcome deep insecurities she's had, and she also shows how the gospel of Jesus Christ relates to the topic of self-esteem. By getting the reader to focus on God's unfailing love towards them, this book is an encouraging tool to aid a young woman in her walk with the Lord.

At the end of each sub-chapter is a "Reflection Section" which encourages the reader to pray, read the Bible and answer reflective questions.

PREFACE

This book aims to help young females develop self-love. The evident truth is that appropriate self-love is not fully possible without first knowing Love Himself. God is love, and His love never fails. (1 John 4:8, 1 Corinthians 13:8)

INTRODUCTION

When asked what the greatest commandments are Jesus replied:

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Matthew 22: 37-39)

We can clearly see that love is a priority in life. The greatest commandment is to love God and to love people as we love ourselves (assuming that we do love ourselves). Unfortunately, in the world we live in today, many of us are victims of low or incorrect self-esteem, and do not love ourselves in a healthy and godly way. What this means is that we cannot love our neighbours in the way we should. As females in particular, the enemy keeps us focused on our body and physical appearance. We are constantly bombarded by the media with an ungodly perception of womanhood and self-esteem.

When Jesus was on the earth, He gave His disciples a new commandment which they were to teach everyone to observe:

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. (John 13:34).

By getting His disciples to change their focus from how they love themselves to how He loves them, Jesus was showing us how to live out His commandment of love – by focusing on His love for us.

This book looks at loving yourself as God loves you,  true self-esteem, which comes from your heavenly Father alone!

At the end of each section there is a Reflection Section which aims to help you delve deeper into the 14 key topics that this book goes through.

As you take the time to complete each Reflection Section you will find your thoughts beginning to align with God’s thoughts about you.

MY TESTIMONY

INTRO

My name is Torema Thompson, and I HAVE G.I.R.L ESTEEM.

I didn’t gain this from working hard to make something of myself, looking to my friends or self-help books, but by looking to my Creator and allowing Him to lead my life, I have stepped into the womanhood that God has desired for me. I have discovered that there is only one way to gain this G.I.R.L Esteem and that is through loving God and obeying His voice.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Romans 8:14)

My life in Christ began in 2006 at 16 years old. To say it has been an easy journey would be a lie, but it has definitely been the most worthwhile and fulfilling experience, and I truly wouldn’t change
