    Dedication

This book is dedicated to every prophetic voice spoken over my life, particularly those that saw me proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ all over the globe. This is my purest passion and my only reason for living. It is equally dedicated to every mind and heart that will be changed about Jesus after having read this dramatic representation.

    Preface

Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

    Acts 2:36–39

This excerpt from Peter’s most passionate sermon is the closest to any preface I could have presented for this work. It is Peter’s bold and deliberate attempt to re-present Jesus Christ to a world of Jewish leaders while at the same time presenting Jesus Christ to those who are far off. Our Lord lived amongst every type. He spent quality time with every group possible. He was and is the living Word. He performed miracles; He showed compassion; He empathized with those who were misunderstood while at the same time grooming and mentoring His disciples. They were privy to the secrets and the mysteries expressed through parables and eye-witnesses to the miracle-working power of the Lord Jesus. They saw, they heard, and they believed. Yet, there were countless others who did not see, did not hear, and subsequently, did not believe. There were countless others who saw and heard but still did not believe.

Jesus knew that His disciples would have to continue what He had started, so, the entire time He was with them, He was preparing them for what succeeded them. He would teach them as much as He could during his time on earth, and they would see and understand His death. Even after hearing Him say that the Son of Man would have to die, Peter still drew his sword in the Garden of Gethsemane and expressed a determination to prevent His inevitable crucifixion. His disciples forsook him and fled. They needed more! More than one-to-one teaching and more than eye-witness testimony. They needed power for what would come next in their lives.

Jesus spent forty days after His resurrection teaching the disciples one major theme, and that was the kingdom of God. He showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God (Acts 1:3). Long before Jesus’ birth, the Jews were taught to believe that they would occupy a kingdom. Isaiah promised.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

    Isaiah 9:6–7

They studied the Scripture and had the expectation of such a kingdom. While the disciples may not have completely understood Jesus’ reasoning for this forty-day dissertation, they understood its meaning quite well. Jesus reminded them of a promise made to them by God through the many prophets that came before them, and they understood it to mean that, in the near future, God intended to keep his promise, thus, their response, When they therefore were come together, they asked of Him, saying: Lord, wilt Thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? (Acts 1:6). He then relaxed their desires to know when and how by reminding them that it was not for them to know the times or the seasons, which the Father had put in his own power. This was not as important as what would follow. Finally, He said, But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8). Simply witnessing all that they had witnessed was not enough for what would be next in their lives. Their entire lives would be changed after this.

God’s promise of a kingdom would require kingdom citizens! These simple men would receive the power necessary to reoffer access to the Jews. Yes! Even those who cried, Crucify Him! Those who threw rocks rent their clothing and spat upon Him, those who persistently tried to trap Him and discredit Him, those who hated Him and demanded His death. They would reoffer the kingdom to them and to their children as well as open the flood gates of the kingdom of God to the Gentiles, including those Roman soldiers who beat Him unmercifully, tearing His skin from His bones and forcing Him to carry His own cross to Calvary. It would be these formerly ignorant and unlearned men who would stand as ushers at the gates of what would become the church of Jesus Christ, welcoming them and welcoming even as many as the Lord our God shall call!

They received the power to become credible witnesses to represent Jesus Christ on the earth. Peter preached with boldness until they were pricked in their hearts and asked the question, What shall we do? This, my friend, is why I have written this book. Oh, yes! In it, I am preaching like Peter to re-present Jesus to our current world. Oh, yes! I believe He needs a reintroduction and re-presentation because too many have lost Him in the clutter of religion and church politics. Too many have lost Jesus amongst desires of fame and aggrandizement. Too many have lost the message of Jesus Christ to fancy titles and subtitles and have subsequently misrepresented Him on the earth. People are blaming Jesus for the foolishness of the church. I share in the sentiments of Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers, We’ve gotta put Jesus back—back where He belongs.

Peter’s response to their question was, in fact, my desire for everyone who will read this book and need to see Jesus again, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38). Repent or change your mind about Jesus Christ. Not so much about your sins. Change your mind about Him, and the remission of sins will follow. Change your mind, so much so that you are willing to be baptized or submerged in His name (His character and His heart), that you become dead to yourselves, your ideologies, your mentalities, and your ways. At which time, you will receive the gift that was promised to you long before you ever knew Jesus Christ existed.

Peter’s sermon resulted in some 3,000 souls being added and admitted to the kingdom of God. My prayer is for at least one more. May that one be you
