About this ebook

How did I find myself alone in a ship with the one person who frustrates me the most? Why does Sarah have to be so different? Why do I keep hearing her name in my head? And why did I ever agree to take her to the middle of nowhere and wait to be paid for her trip until I got there? This makes absolutely no sense to me. And yet here I am. The worst part is we'll have to act like we're married for part of the trip. And I can tell you, neither of us is looking forward to that! sa-Rah

    sa-Rah, sa-Rah. .. . ... ... ... ... ... sa-Rah.

    Eeg ook limpel slyph, sa-Rah!

    Oh, I was dreaming. Good!

    sa-Rah!

sa-Rah, that must be the Earth name Sarah. But what would somebody born near that Sector be doing in this one?

Yeah well, I was here in this very alien planet, where they talked strangely. Where they pronounced sa-Rah with the emphasis on the second syllable, if this language could indeed be said to have emphasis on any syllable.

Why would anyone, other than myself, from Earth Sector be here?

I had my reasons. Good ones. Yes, very good ones. I was here for protection. Yes, so it was for protection from the crowd I’d been hanging around with. Something about losing at gambling and not paying up. I’m still deciding if that’s totally true or not.

Anyway, whereas my former comrades could be very nice one moment, when they didn’t suspect you of cheating, and nasty the next moment when they did; the people here were just, well, alien.

You still had to watch your back, but the consequences weren’t so dire when they were upset with you.

And I hadn’t been cheating. Not really.

I’m sure the people here seem natural to each other, but I’ve lived on many planets, and these are the most alien aliens I’d ever encountered.
