Please just leave me alone, Irene mumbled. She’d avoided eye contact, but the short guy in the pinstriped pants and fedora was making his way over. Oh, perfect.

I like your dress, the boy said with a tip of his hat. Very rockabilly, the red with the polka-dots. Looks great on you.

Irene’s heart pounded with the compliment, and when she finally met the boy’s delicate gaze she laughed. He wasn’t a boy at all. Wait, was he? Irene followed the dark line of suspenders down a crisp white shirtfront. No, there were definitely breasts underneath. Her stalker was just another lonely girl.

Well, thanks. Irene brushed imaginary wrinkles from her skirt. The crinolines made it poufy, but she liked that. My sister said I was gonna look like Minnie Mouse in this thing.
