About this ebook

Bach Flower Remedy Repertoires – Part Two:

Larch to White Chestnut

It takes several years to become familiar with the dispensing of the Bach Flower Remedies, and it is only then that the clinician becomes aware that there are always certain symptoms and signs which do not quite fit into the specific categories indicated in the traditional Bach allocations.

Some Remedies seem to overlap naturally, and others seem to require a balancing component. Still others seem to indicate chronicity, and there are even others that are suggestive of acute disorders.

By using a repertoire, we "blanket" an area of the patient's symptoms and thus more effectively reach the levels of causation. In fact, a repertoire is no less than a spectrum of treatment that can be applied to a range of symptoms that themselves form a spectrum. This is why antibiotics are found to be very effective in certain instances when they are applied as a broad spectrum to cover a range of bacteria.

Man's symptoms are very like his flora of bacteria. Remove one type of bacterium, and you have created favourable conditions for another type to appear. Similarly, we find in practice that one often deals competently with a presenting symptom only to discover that when it is disposed of, another, related to it deeply, takes its place.

We have deliberately linked the repertoires to their astrological correspondences because, from experience, we are finding that the majority of practitioners using Flower Remedies are also intimately involved in their studies and research with astrology. Even the dispenser of Flower Remedies who is not an astrologer can quickly learn to identify the position of the planets in his patient's horoscope and through this simple knowledge; he can select and try out the appropriate repertoire.

Quite frequently a patient will telephone to describe his symptoms, and if you have the patient's horoscope, it will give you considerable helpful information in the absence of being able to observe the patient's signs.

    LARCH

    "Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the

    good we oft might win by fearing to attempt."

    John Richardson

    For most of us, failure serves a useful psychological function, viz., to deflate the ego when it has begun to grow into a puff-ball with increasing alienation from the higher Self. Yet, for the LARCH type, it serves to add to an inherent inferiority complex, compounding his lack of confidence and tendency toward procrastination.

    The LARCH type is not a fearful person. He is pragmatic enough to recognise his inability to cope with certain matters in life. He may not even know why he is lacking in confidence; he just knows that he cannot compete in certain fields of expression and so does not try. All of us face challenges, and this is how we grow. The LARCH type needs to become more determined and to drive out his sense of inferiority.

    There is a lovely poem by Arthur Hugh Clough which every LARCH type should read when he feels despondent :-

    Say not the struggle naught availeth,

    The labour and the wounds are vain,

    The enemy faints not, nor faileth,

    And as things have been they remain.

    If hopes were dupes, fears may be liars;

    It may be, in yon smoke concealed,

    Your comrades chase e'en now the fliers,

    And, but for you, possess the field.

    For while the tired waves, vainly breaking,

    Seem here no painful inch to gain,

    Far back, through creeks, and inlets making,

    Comes silent, flooding in, the main.

    And not by eastern windows only,

    When daylight comes, comes in the light;

    In front, the sun climbs slow, how slowly;

    But westward, look, the land is bright!

    The positive aspect of LARCH has strong Fifth Ray qualities which make him analytical and confident of being able to deal with any situation. He plunges into life, willing to take risks and undeterred by discouraging results. If he fails, it is not for want of trying his best.

    As one of the Remedies ruled by the Sign of Virgo, in order to determine the repertoire of Remedies suitable for the LARCH type, examine the horoscope to ascertain in which House the Moon is found (as it is the ruler of Virgo) :-
