Gina Kammer
Gina Kammer never grew out of Narnia and Middle-earth. Instead, she went on to study their medieval source texts, mythology, theater, and other literature at Bethany Lutheran College, Richmond University in London, and finally the University of South Dakota for her M.A. degree. Her other interests include tea, traveling, oil painting, archery, and snuggling her grumpy bunny. She lives among piles of books in Minnesota with her husband, daughter, and menagerie of critters. CHAPTER 1
Fire and Ice
In the space between Muspelheim and Niflheim, the worlds of fire and ice, an enormous creature appears. It is Ymir, father of the giants, formed from the waters of Niflheim’s melted ice. A huge cow also forms from the waters in the gap between worlds. It licks and licks the salty ice. Eventually, Buri, the father of the race of gods, is freed from the ice. Nothing else exists.
Ymir drinks the cow’s milk and grows bigger and bigger. From Ymir’s body, three giants are born. The god Buri marries one of the giants, and they have a son named Bor. Later, Bor marries Bestla, a giant woman, and they have three sons. You, Odin, are the oldest. Vili and Ve are your younger brothers.
The frost giant Ymir was a primeval being and the ancestor of all frost giants.According to Norse mythology, Ymir was the first giant and was the father of the race of giants.
You are stuck in the emptiness between the worlds. Ymir continues to grow to immense size and becomes more and more cruel. To the south, you see the burning flames of Muspell across the vast space. The mists of Niflheim create a haze in the north. But here in Ginnungagap—the huge empty gap where you, Vili, and Ve grew up—there is nothing. No other worlds exist.
Stars, nebula, and galaxies filling the emptiness of deep space. You’ve always craved more, and you long to escape. You thirst for knowledge, wisdom, and power. And you dream of a cosmos full of other worlds to explore. Perhaps you and your brothers can fill the emptiness and create such a cosmos. But the race
