Luggage for Freedom
Introduction
Welcome to the House of B’Aggie,
a long-time luggage emporium on the first floor of an old warehouse, where attic air soaks corners of a showroom stuffed with every kind of bag imaginable, from suit bags to satchels. Flickering tubes of light in the ceiling cast a yellow hue across the floor with a buzz that broadcasts a faint mantra that echoes everywhere.
Like leaves on tree branches, backpacks hang by their loose straps suspended from metal skeletons that stand like gnomes in a garden of luggage. Square cloth suitcases the size of lunch boxes in bright blue, yellow, and red sit idly on tabletops while the smallest of bags — wallets and change purses — lie sleeping in their wicker hammocks beside the cash register. Behind it, raised on a shelf overlooking the showroom floor, sits a cloth handbag colored by swathes of red and brown with sturdy leather handles. That bag is The B’Aggie,
and here is her story.
—Bea Aggie
Proprietor, House of B’Aggie
