DEDICATION
To my late grandparents, Reverend Elijah and Birdie Cole, who taught me to always keep GOD first.
To my father, Robert L Cole, who taught me things that a book never could. Continue to rest in peace.
To my mother, Hosetta Robertson, who taught me to always keep it classy and that silence is golden.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I would like to express my deep sense of gratitude to:
My children, Tonika, Tia, and Tivonte (Tike), for being there when I needed you all the most.
My sisterhood: Lynne Abram, you saved my life and have been there for me at some of my lowest moments. Tenese Canada, thank you for having my back when I’m not in the room.
Margo Fisher, thank you for putting the pressure on me to put pen to paper to encourage others with my story and life experiences.
Bishop James Williams, thank you for your obedience to the Holy Spirit to tell me that it was time to tell my story.
My cousin, Linda Youngblood, opened her door to me when I had nowhere else to go. Thank you.
My siblings, Robert, Timothy (my twin brother), and Andrea (Lee-Lee), thank you all for supporting me in your special way.
Latisha Carson, when I was upset, you never failed at making me laugh.
PREFACE
Growing up in Richmond, Ca., the golden rule was to stay out of the drama the city had to offer, work hard to be independent, and have your things. It was all valuable information; it’s just that no one instructed me on what to do when I lost it all. No one taught me how to re-group mentally after leaving a toxic relationship. In this book, I’ve decided to share my story of a failed marriage, a failed business, losing everything I had worked so hard for, and even the social media drama I encountered as a grown woman. We are so quick to share our successes but never our failures. One thing I wasn’t going to do was sit back, play the victim, and have a pity party. When you hit rock bottom, you have the choice to either stay there or Come Up Higher, and I chose the latter.
