About this ebook

#1 I had been shooting coke with my Mexican drug dealer, Mario, for three days straight when I remembered the Arizona show. I was a wreck. I usually was whenever I went downtown and hooked up with Mario. I didn’t feel good, so I had to buy heroin.
#2 I had been up shooting coke for so many days straight that I was hallucinating, in a strange limbo between consciousness and sleep. I was so wasted and chilly that I just sat down on the curb and draped my jacket over my chest and shoulders as if it were a blanket.
#3 I was conceived on February 3, 1962, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My parents, John Alden Kiedis and Molly Vandenveen, were rebels in their own ways. My dad could not drink or swear, and he never had a problem conforming to the strict lifestyle he was raised in.
#4 In 1960, Jack Kiedis, a friend of my father’s, convinced my mother to let him take her new blue Austin Healy and drive to Hollywood. They settled in San Diego until Jack got word that my mother was seeing someone in Grand Rapids. He moved back in with my mother, and a few weeks later, I was born.

In 1960, Jack Kiedis, a friend of my father’s, convinced my mother to let him take her new blue Austin Healy and drive to Hollywood. They settled in San Diego until Jack got word that my mother was seeing someone in Grand Rapids. He moved back in with my mother, and a few weeks later, I was born.
#5
I was born in 1962 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was named after my father, John Kiedis III, but was known as Tony from the start. I left the hospital and joined my dad, my mom, and their dog Panzer in their tiny new government-funded home in the country outside of Grand Rapids. But within weeks, my dad started getting wanderlust and cabin fever.
#6
I was born in 1965 in Los Angeles. My parents had split up again in 1965, and I had moved with my mother to California. I remember going to Love-Ins with my mom, and the verdant rolling hills of Griffith Park filled with little groups of people dancing and stringing love beads.
#7
I had a rough patch around the time of my mom’s marriage to Scott St. John. I didn’t care about learning anymore, and I became a little rogue. I also began to develop a mentality that authority figures were against me.
#8
I went to visit my dad in California that summer. He had an apartment in West Hollywood, but we spent a lot of time in Topanga Canyon, where his girlfriend Connie had a house. I remember being scared for my dad’s life, but having a lot of fun.
#9
I had a happy childhood in Detroit, until we moved to Paris Street in 1969, when I was in the third grade. I was resentful of the school administration, because they would regularly pull me out of class if anything went wrong. I became a proficient liar and cheat to get out of trouble.
#10
I had a difficult time dealing with authority figures as I got older. I couldn’t stand the principals, and they couldn’t stand me. I had loved my teachers up until fifth grade, but by fifth grade, I’d turned on all the teachers.
#11
I had a very happy childhood in Michigan, until my father began moving large amounts of marijuana. I was euphoric to have him visit, but my mom and sister were not exactly welcoming of him.
#12
I was always looking to make a buck, so I began charging kids money to come to my basement and attend a Partridge Family concert. I became the president of my class, and my mother was at her wits’ end with me. I decided to go live with my father in L. A.
#13
My mother started considering letting me go when she met Steve Idema. He was a lawyer who provided legal aid for the impoverished, and my mom was crazy about him. I began
