Standing in a bright golden room with glistening white floors, the king furiously stared down at the two guards kneeling in front of his throne.
You had one job!
he bellowed. All you had to do was watch Stephan until sundown.
Xavier cleared his throat and peered next to him. Joseph, his superior, was staring at the ground, his face wrinkled with anger and disappointment. His wrinkled hands brushed his gray hair, and he glanced up to the king, glaring down with shaking fists.
Your majesty, Xavier was tricked by your highness and—
I don’t want to hear your pathetic excuses,
the king yelled. He flopped back into his oversized chair and fixed his purple mantle around his white suit. His brown hair was coiffed into a ponytail, and his crown tilted as his head dipped forward.
He sighed. Find my son and bring him to me.
