Do you remember the moment you had your first crush? Maybe you were in junior high, and it happened… They walked by. You know, the cute, popular, athletic, smart, you just know you’re going to marry them type? You start planning your moves. Off to class, you accidentally drop your books by their locker. Your heart is beating too fast to say anything yet. During lunch, you’re going through the line in the cafeteria, and they walk up behind you with their tray. Oh man, there is so much you want to say. You just want to sit with them and tell them everything that’s in your heart. You want to talk about common interests, different passions, dreams, goals, future college plans, marriage, and maybe even kids. It’s not real yet, but it could be. You start floating, just thinking about spending time with them, talking with them, building a friendship, and future life with them. You just want to break the silence. In the Garden of Eden, man and woman had a perfect relationship with God. Then sin came in and divided God and His man. So, God started planning His moves. God loved the world so much that He would send His only Son to bring us back into the perfect love story. The greatest love story of all time… There is a God who is passionately, relentlessly, and radically in love with His kids. He wants nothing more than to walk with them, talk with them, share dreams, passions, goals, hurts, good times, tough times, the future, family, career, spouse, and the list goes on. He even told us in John 10:27 (KJV), My sheep hear my voice. If you think God is mad at you, angry, judging, or looking down on you…then you aren’t spending time with Him. When you talk to God, when you pray, when you learn about His character, then you will hear how much He loves you. When you are confident about how much the Father loves you, then it’s easy to believe that prayer works. I love the hymn from when I was a little girl, In the Garden. The chorus says, And He walks with me, and He talks with me, / And He tells me I am His own. / And the joy we share as we tarry there, / None other has ever known. There is nothing in the whole world like the sweet fellowship we can have with our Heavenly Father. If you are asking questions like, Why was I born? What is the meaning of life? Why is prayer important? then you picked up the right book. Our first job in life is to be loved, to love, and have sweet fellowship with the loving Creator. As you read these pages, Lisa eloquently shares from her heart and teaches us what prayer is, what it looks like, and practical tips to get started.
