About this ebook

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:

#1 We are all interconnected, and what we do is only a small part of a much larger world. We must appreciate this reality if we want to be happy. I’d like to thank my wife, Gina Arons, for her patience and support as I worked on this book.

#2 I’d like to thank all the teachers who have helped me develop and enrich my meditation practice, including Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, HH Dalai Lama, Chögyam Trungpa, Larry Rosenberg, Shunryu Suzuki, and Ram Dass.

#3 If you are one of those people who always feels like you’re not good enough, this book is for you. It’s for the rest of us who may have days when we feel good about ourselves, but sooner or later hit a bump or crash.

#4 We all struggle with self- evaluation, and we all constantly compare ourselves to others. But it is our relentless trying to feel good about ourselves that causes much of our distress.

    #1

We are all interconnected, and what we do is only a small part of a much larger world. We must appreciate this reality if we want to be happy. I’d like to thank my wife, Gina Arons, for her patience and support as I worked on this book.

    #2

I’d like to thank all the teachers who have helped me develop and enrich my meditation practice, including Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, HH Dalai Lama, Chögyam Trungpa, Larry Rosenberg, Shunryu Suzuki, and Ram Dass.

    #3

If you are one of those people who always feels like you’re not good enough, this book is for you. It’s for the rest of us who may have days when we feel good about ourselves, but sooner or later hit a bump or crash.

    #4

We all struggle with self- evaluation, and we all constantly compare ourselves to others. But it is our relentless trying to feel good about ourselves that causes much of our distress.

    #5

The belief that we can be happy if we do well in these comparisons is so ingrained in us that we might not even notice it. The constant pressure of feeling judged is a major cost of this belief.

    #6

We are constantly performing, and we rarely get a break to feel really content or at peace. Because everything changes, and we constantly evaluate ourselves, it’s impossible to consistently feel good enough.

    #7

We often try to avoid sinking, not-good-enough feelings, but this limits us in a million ways. We also try to avoid performance anxiety, but this often gets in the way of our performance.

    #8

We all have struggles with feeling good about ourselves. It is easy to feel inadequate, and it can be difficult to feel good about yourself.

    #9

Well-being can be found in many different ways, from playing catch with your 6-year-old grandson to volunteering in a soup kitchen. The key is to find something that makes you feel good, and don't worry about what others think.

    #10

We each get hooked on different criteria for measuring our adequacy, worth, or success. What’s super- important to one of us may be irrelevant to someone else, and vice versa. Seeing this in action can help us take our own particular ups and downs
