Hello everyone! I’m Natsuyo Lipschutz, and this is The 6 Cs of Effective Storytelling, an audio course from Scribd. Thank you for joining me. Let’s get started.

Have you ever heard someone speak in a boardroom or at an event and said to yourself, Ya now, she is absolutely right! But…. I’m not quite feeling it.

As a speaker, presenter, or business leader, you want your audience to feel the same emotions that you feel about whatever it is that you are talking about; you want to connect with them emotionally and influence them, so they will take desirable actions.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle said, in order for people to feel fully persuaded, you need to have these three elements in your communication: Logos, which appeals to logic; Pathos, which appeals to emotions; and Ethos, which appeals to ethics, morals, and character.

If you are lacking in any one of these elements, your persuasive power will greatly diminish, and your audience may start to think, She is absolutely right! But…. I’m not quite feeling it.

Historically, many speakers who struggle to gain traction with their audience will rely too heavily on logos. In this case, a persuader uses facts, statistics, and quotations from reputable sources or experts, as well as existing knowledge. This is the side of an argument that can prove how solid it is based on facts alone and
