CHAPTER 1
A DRUG-RESISTANT DISEASE
Patients filled the waiting room of a hospital in Mumbai, India. One of these patients was a 19-year-old engineering student. She had been on antibiotics for a lung infection for a year. But she wasn’t getting better. She came to the hospital in Mumbai to get help.
Doctors diagnosed her with tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is also known as TB. It is a deadly disease that causes patients to cough. This spreads tuberculosis bacteria.
