About this ebook

It is really important that all children learn them early in their schools, as they say, “Catch them young!”. Along with the modern education, children should be taught values from scriptures in parallel. This will help the children develop an all round personality, which will help them in their life. DEDICATION

Dedicated to Srila Prabhupada whose writings have inspired me to take up Bhakti yoga. I strongly believe that if a previous acharya in the parampara has already written about something, there is no need to redo it. In fact, when we redo it with the mood of competitive spirit, the message in the book will not be effec- tive.

I also know for sure that one cannot write on spiritual matters without being blessed by Krishna and the disciplic succession of gurus.

I am thankful to all the Vaishnavas particularly the disciples of MahaVishnu Goswami Maharaj from whose Granthraj messages I have taken several points.

Last but not the least, please forgive me for any mistakes that I might have made in the book.

My only solace is in the Bhagavatam verse 1.5.11 which states that On the other hand, that literature which is full of descriptions of the transcendental glories of the name, fame, forms, pastimes, etc., of the unlimited Supreme Lord is a different creation, full of transcendental words directed toward bringing about a revolution in the impious lives of this world’s misdirected civilization. Such transcendental literatures, even though imperfectly composed, are heard, sung and accepted by purified men who are thoroughly honest.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

DR. S. CHANDRASEKARAN is an Electrical Engi- neer from Annamalai University, 1968 batch. He is now a busy Govt. Approved Valuer, for many big projects. His time is involved in only three things: his business, talking about Krishna and situational humor. He feels that Krishna gives him ideas to write books in which all these three are combined. All of his books are full of humor (Ek slok, Ek joke) and his only topics are Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita, Mahabharat and naturally Krishna, the original hu- morist. His maiden venture is the highly successful ‘Kids Laugh & Learn Gita’ written in 2011. He wants that children and elders pan-world to get the taste of his sugar- coated religious books.

His 11th book is Tell me why Krishna is where the children ask all their doubts and the author clarifies them on behalf of Krishna.

His 5 books on Indian management are, 1. Laugh & Learn Management 2. Laugh & Learn Project Management 3. Success through Leadership for students and 4. Made in Heaven-Make it heaven a Marriage management book (it is eagerly being read by married men & women and bachelors). 5. Life Management - Thirukkural & 81 Quali- ties of Krishna.

His latest book is Laugh & Learn Dasavatar which brings to light the connection or link of all the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu to Gita.

The author is writing 150 books at a time now. Out of which 120 are on a single subject: the Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

    The immediately up-coming books are

Krishna here ; Krishna there ; Krishna everywhere points to how we can see Lord Krishna everywhere based on Bhagavad Gita.

Timeless Gita for Timeless person has the entire 900 page Gita simplified without losing the essence and beauty.

Krishna Promises has 81 promises made by Krishna in the Gita.

    INTRODUCTION

Moral values! It is really important that all children learn them early in their schools, as they say, Catch them young!

But my question is Should moral values be taught only to children?

In case children miss to learn values in their school education for some reason, then they remain without those teachings or values throughout their lives and how bad it would turn out to be for the society!

So the moral we learn is that, the moral values are not only for the children, but for every one and definitely elders are not exempted from those wonderful teachings.

Anywhere, anytime, those who are brought up with sound moral teachings are appreciated for their behaviour in the society. For example, any honest person is pleasant to move with, and a man of principle is welcome everywhere.

A big man was asked, How did you become so successful in business? He said, I do an honest business and I don’t have any competition!

There is also a practical example from my life. Once I had to pay back some money to a friend. It was not a big sum and he is not a small person. I phoned him and said that the money was ready. Do you want to come to my house, or you want me to send it through someone? I asked him. I was amused when he said, I will come myself; I never get such phone calls which talk of returning money to me!

These teachings have to be carried on ad nauseum. A standard doubt expressed in general, everywhere is, People have been repeating Harishchandra’s story ‘n’ number of times. Why are they still continuing when everyone knows that story very well? The reply was that, though it was repeated for centuries, only rare souls imbibed the teachings and followed Satyam or Truthfulness as a way of life. I hope all the children of the present generation, read these wonderful stories from our scriptures and follow each one of those teachings in their lives, starting with Satyam. ‘Satyam param dimahi’

Now let me turn our attention to how the book was formed. Our editorial team started with the concept of bringing out, Kids Laugh & Learn Gita 2.0. Then during the discussions that followed, a common opinion took shape that we should now pack more content in the story, with each story going deep on the morals. As per our standard ’Ek slok Ek joke’, we wanted to add humour which is more relevant to the context this time. We also have added assessments in the end of each topic. The variety of assessments, help the children in churning of their young minds. A strange thing that I noticed was that, even elders show a liking in attempting these assessments. Moral values are not related to Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) alone and so, this book includes a few facets of Sikhism, Christianity and Islam as well.

My introduction is not complete without remembering and thanking Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON. Prabhupada’s teachings emphasize on how one should become a devotee and that, all the good qualities and moral values automatically manifests in a devotee (S.B.5.18.12). All our Gita explanations are based on his ‘Bhagavad Gita As It Is’ meanings only.

I am sure Krishna’s grace would make it entertaining and informative to you all. Hare Krishna!

    TOPIC 1: MAHABHARAT

Long ago, more than 5100 years back, in the kingdom of Hastinapur, there were three brothers. They were Dhritarashtra, Pandu and Vidura. Since Dhritarashtra was blind by birth, Pandu became the king. He was a valiant king and he conquered the neighboring kingdoms. Hastinapur rapidly grew in size. Dhritarashtra’s wife was Gandhari. Pandu’s wives were Kunti and Madri. Dhritarashtra had 100 sons. They were called the Kauravas. The two eldest sons were Duryodhana and Dushasana. Pandu had 5 sons. They were called the Pandavas. They were Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva.

The Pandavas and the Kauravas grew up with guidance from grandfather Bhishma and guru Drona. After Pandu Maharaj, the Pandavas were to rule the kingdom but were given Indraprastha instead. The wicked and selfish Duryodhana who wanted to be the king of the complete kingdom, with some mean tricks, sent the Pandavas with their wife Draupadi away on exile to the forest. After 13 years, when the Pandavas returned, he refused to return their rightful kingdom. All peace attempts failed. The war began at Kurukshetra.

Lord Krishna who is always on the side of Dharma, supported the Pandavas. He promised that He would not take up weapons in the war. He guided the Pandavas throughout the war. He was helping them in all possible ways. He became the charioteer of Arjuna. At the battlefield, He drove the chariot in the midst of both the armies, so that Arjuna could see all those who were assembled to fight the great war.

When Arjuna saw his cousins, teachers, grandfather and other relatives in the opponent army, he became confused and his heart melted. He did not want to fight. At that time, Lord Krishna revealed to him the divine knowledge called Bhagavad Gita.

While the war was going on in Kurukshetra, Dhritarashtra was in his palace in Hastinapur. Sanjaya, his secretary, was given divine vision by Vyasadev. Because of the divine vision, he was able to see the battlefield of Kurukshetra, right from the palace in Hastinapur. He was able to narrate and fully describe the incidents happening in the battlefield, to Dhritarashtra.

Thus, in the Bhagavad Gita, you will find conversations between Dhritarashtra & Sanjaya, Lord Krishna & Arjuna. Bhagavad Gita is a part of Mahabharata, the epic written by Vyasa Bhagavan. It is also called Gitopanishad. It contains the summary of all the Vedic literature.

    MORAL VALUES

Dhritarashtra was very much attached to the throne of Hastinapur. After him, he wanted his son to become the king. His son Duryodhana was jealous of the
