Love Letter to the Apocalypse
A Collection of Poems
By: Mary Cowdin
The Flaming Heart
He has the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen
Almost like the stars
My heaven is in those eyes
My hell is them on me
This hell is my heaven
It sets me on fire
The fire can’t be put out
It never stops
The fire spreads from my heart to my stomach
It spreads to my brain
Soon, I am set aflame
O My heart is burning
There’s a fire inside of me
I’ve been set on fire
Alone
I reach out to grab your hand
I’m close to holding onto them
But my hand slips
I can’t keep my grip
They slip away
All of the happy couples
They don’t see me
I don’t exist
And I’m alone
I try to reach out but
My hand can’t find anyone
Maybe it's better that I don’t
Maybe it's better that I’m alone
Forever
Why Can’t You Be Mine?
I look at you through the glass wall
You seem so happy
You seem like home to me
But you aren’t mine
Ask myself what things would be like with you
Even though it might not ever happen
My heart says
What
If
And I can’t stop thinking about what if for days
I know that you aren’t perfect
You’ve never been
And I’m willing to take that
With every good thing about you
But you aren’t mine
And I’m not yours
Why can’t you be mine?
Him
He’s so beautiful
I feel the passion in my bones
I want to share a sweet and tender kiss
Your eyes, your face, your smile
All are gorgeous
My dream come true
I confess
