    INTRODUCTION

My Journey to The Books of The Sovereign (BTSV)

Welcome to The Books of The Sovereign with The Books of the Empire. This work is the result of a long search for the truth of The Creator.

I was raised Catholic, and at the age of 15 or so I heard a sermon in church which I studied closely when I got home that day. It was a long time ago, and I don’t remember the exact passage in the Bible that the priest had quoted, but what I do remember is that the priest had given a long sermon based on that quote. There was a problem. When I read the context of the entire passage, it was clear to me that what the Bible was saying was the exact opposite of what the priest was preaching. I consulted my parents about this, and they told me to talk to the priest.

When I spoke with the priest, he gave very little explanation. I reviewed the scripture again, but his explanation fell flat. I had been an altar boy for several years, and a short time after our conversation I was told I was too old and was relieved of my position. I was well aware that there were boys older than me serving in that capacity. A few years later, when I left my parent’s home, disillusioned, I stopped going to church. I spent a little over a decade as an agnostic.

When my first child arrived, I felt it was important to pass on a belief system, and the closest I could get to what I believed at the time was to be with The Worldwide Church of God. I spent roughly 6 years in that organization and subsequent offshoots, until one of the ministers decided that I was not contributing enough money. I thought his stance on tithing was absurd and not biblical; but their belief system was changing and so was mine, so I just moved on.

My search and studies continued, and I came to realize that the words God and Lord are not a specific name and a specific title, but generic terms. The Creator in the Bible says to call on His Name, to swear by His Name, to honor His Name. So what is His Name, what is His title, and what do they mean?

My Intention for The Books of The Sovereign

It is my intention to attempt to reveal the names and titles of The Creator as translated from the Hebrew names and titles in the Old Testament, The Books of The Sovereign, and the Greek names and titles in the New Testament, The Books of the Empire, and to show the impact of their use throughout the Bible, thus creating The Books of The Sovereign Version, the BTSV.

To do this I have used the American Standard Version of the Bible, the ASV, which is in the Public Domain, as a starting point and have edited the text and added commentary. In the ASV, and in many other versions, the word usually translated as God in The Old Testament is Elohim, which is a meaningless word in the English language. In Hebrew, however, it has meaning. The meaning of a word in any language is expressed in its definition, which can be expressed in some cases as a synonym, or in many cases as a phrase. Also, many words have more than one definition based on their pronunciation and/or the context in which they are found. Therefore, the meaning of a Hebrew word in English can be expressed as a synonym or phrase, depending on the pronunciation and on the context. Another factor involved is that in biblical Hebrew, small marks on the letters of a word called nikud indicate variations in pronunciation and/or meaning. In English, for example, there is a vast difference between the word called and the word culled. Also in English, an apostrophe can change the meaning from plural to possessive without even changing the sound. Elohim then becomes something like EternalSovereignToAll. He is the only one so He is TheEternalSovereignToAll. This is His title, among others.

I have run the English words together to give a sense of this being the translation of one Hebrew word. The word Elohim can have other meanings based on context and nikud markings. In some cases, it is used to refer to angels and in others it refers to earthly sovereigns. This is a plural noun and refers to more than one angel or more than one earthly sovereign. In the case of The Creator, He is The Sovereign over everything, and it is my belief that this is where the plurality comes in.

The second reference to The Creator Himself occurs in The Old Testament when Moses asks who he should say has sent him to the Israelites. The Creator responds, I am who I am. He goes on to say, Tell them Jehovah has sent me to you. What does the word Jehovah mean in English? The Creator has defined what Jehovah means by saying, I am who I am and then going on to say, Tell them, ‘Jehovah has sent me’. Here we have a very strong indication from the context what the meaning of the word Jehovah is. The Creator says in another place that Jehovah is His MemorialName, His name throughout time. So He is consistent. He is who He is throughout time. This is His character; the glowing main feature of His righteous character! If you keep this idea in your mind as you read through The Books of The Sovereign (BTSV), you realize that His behavior toward the world and His people, as well as His desire to create His own children, filled by their choice with His Spirit, is consistent. Of all the sovereigns He is a ConsistentOne; He is the only truly ConsistentOne, So He is TheConsistentOne. This is His Name, among others, and this name reveals His character.

Titles of His in Hebrew in The Old Testament, when tranaslated into Enlish in the BTSV, tell us what His relationship is with us. Contrast that with the word usually translated as God in the New Testament. That word means The Diety. A diety is merely an object of worship, and this says nothing further about the relationship. Similarly, the word usually translated as The Lord means Controller, which is interesting given the fact that He has given us free will. He’s also referred to as Father, but He’s never named in the New Testament. The New Testament was compiled by command of the Roman emperor. Therefore, I refer to it as The Books of the Empire.

It is not my intention to be dogmatic about any of this. My intention is to point out that the names and titles that we ascribe to The Creator have meaning. They describe His character and the relationship He hopes to have with us. As stated earlier, I have used the American Standard Version of the Bible, The ASV, which is in the Public Domain, as a basis for this text. I have altered the text in several ways.

First, as we’ve seen above, I have changed the names and titles that appear in the ASV to what I believe is a close approximation of what they mean in English. Therefore Elohim, translated as The Lord, becomes EternalSovereignToAll or TheEternalSovereignToAll, and Jehovah, translated as God, becomes ConsistentOne or TheConsistentOne, since He is the only being I know to be consistent throughout time. These are just two examples, and a complete list is provided in Appendix A.

Second, I have updated most of the text to modern English words, sentence structure, etc. However, the ASV does not include quotation marks but begins each quote with a capital first letter in the first word of the quote. I have retained that convention. Therefore, there are no quotation marks in the body of the text.

Third, I have made extensive use of Strong’s Concordance, along with the context of specific passages to clarify their meaning.

Fourth, I have included some of my comments in brackets and italics within the body of the edited text. I have also included some of my comments in separate paragraphs and in italics. It is very important to keep in mind that entries in italics under these two conditions are not a part of the edited translation, but are my commentary.

Anyone who has translated or edited the Bible has their own agenda, not that they intend to mislead, but they still bring their own perspective to the process. I too have my own perspective, and I have added commentary in italics. Call it speculation if you like.

At this point in time, I believe it is important to get this information out to anyone who is interested. I'm putting this out there as raw truth, without extensive explanations. Explanations of how I arrived at the various names and titles, or how I arrived at changes in meaning in the various passages will be dealt with in a later edition or under separate cover. Please keep in mind that this is an exploration rather than dogmatic statement. Enjoy the process!

Call on His Name: Exodus 3:13-15, BTSV: ¹³ Moses said to TheEternalSovereignToAll, Behold, when I come to the children of Israel, and say to them, TheEternalSovereignToAll of your fathers, has sent me to you, then they will ask me, What is His Name? What will I say to them? ¹⁴ TheEternalSovereignToAll said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM: and He said, Thus you will say to the children of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.

¹⁵ TheEternalSovereignToAll said moreover to Moses, Thus you will say to the children of Israel, TheConsistentOne, the TheEternalSovereignToAll of your fathers, TheEternalSovereignToAll of Abraham, TheEternalSovereignToAll of Isaac, and TheEternalSovereignToAll of Jacob, has sent me to you: this is My Name forever, and this is My MemorialName to all generations.

Swear by His Name: Jeremiah 12:16, BTSV: ¹⁶ If they will diligently learn the ways of My people, to swear by My Name, As TheConsistentOne lives; just as they taught My people to swear by Baal [The Lord]; then they will be built up among My people. ¹⁷ But if they will not hear, then I will pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, says TheConsistentOne.

Honor His Name: Malachi 1:6, BTSV: ⁶ A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is My honor? If I am a master, where is My fear? Proverbs 1:7: ⁷ The fear of TheConsistentOne is the beginning of knowledge…

    Books of The Sovereign Version

    Genesis, Chapter 1, BTSV

¹ In the beginning TheEternalSovereignToAll created the heavens and the earth. ² The earth had become desolate and cursed, and wickedness was within and throughout the abyss of water. [Angels had corrupted the earth. Fallen angels tried it their way.] The Spirit of TheEternalSovereignToAll moved toward a juncture. [He made an important change in His method of creation.] ³ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, Let there be enlightenment: and there was enlightenment. ⁴ TheEternalSovereignToAll saw the enlightenment, that it was good: and TheEternalSovereignToAll separated the enlightenment from the wickedness. ⁵ TheEternalSovereignToAll called the enlightenment life, and the wickedness He called adversity. There was evening and there was morning, one day.

[His days started before He created the sun, the moon, and the stars. On the first day He cleaned things up, spiritually speaking. Every translation I have seen says He created light at this point, but if He created physical light at this point, then why would He create the great lights later? Why would He create lights later if physical light was already in place?

Angels had been created by fiat in a kaleidoscope of character and unable to change their character. Eventually, those angels whose characters were wicked ruined the earth. (Amos 5:7) TheEternalSovereignToAll created enlightenment with a plan to create man with their character not fully formed and able to change their character based on enlightenment. Man was given the ability to decide to change his own character through free will based on informed consent. Man was made lower than the angels (Psalm 8:5) in that his character is not fully formed, but with the capacity to surpass the angels if their character is fully formed in righteousness. (Isaiah 66:2) Those who do so will have eternal life! (Psalm 37:27, Isaiah 41:4)]

⁶ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, Let there be an expanse in the middle of the waters and let it divide the waters from the waters. ⁷ TheEternalSovereignToAll made the expanse and divided the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse: and it was so. ⁸ TheEternalSovereignToAll called the expanse Sky. There was evening and there was morning, a second day.

[He created an expanse of air separating the waters and called the expanse Sky. The waters below are the abyss and the waters above are one of the heavens. Something firm, the firmament, holds the waters above in place.]

⁹ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together to one place, and let the dry ground appear: and it was so. ¹⁰ TheEternalSovereignToAll called the dry ground Land; and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas: and TheEternalSovereignToAll saw that it was good. ¹¹ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, Let the earth sprout tender sprouts, herbs from seeds and yielding seeds, and trees from fruit and yielding fruit, each after its kind which is in it on the earth: and it was so. ¹² The earth brought tender sprouts, herbs from seeds and yielding seeds after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with their seeds after their kind: and TheEternalSovereignToAll saw that it was good. ¹³ There was evening and there was morning, a third day.

¹⁴ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to divide between the days and separate them; and let them signal The Appointed Days, the seasons, and the years: ¹⁵ and let them be for lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth: and it was so. ¹⁶ TheEternalSovereignToAll made the two great lights; the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. ¹⁷ TheEternalSovereignToAll set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, ¹⁸ to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and TheEternalSovereignToAll saw that it was good. ¹⁹ There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

²⁰ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, Let the waters swarm with living creatures and let birds fly above the earth toward the expanse of the sky. ²¹ TheEternalSovereignToAll created the great sea-monsters and every living creature that moves with which the waters swarm after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind: and TheEternalSovereignToAll saw that it was good. ²² TheEternalSovereignToAll blessed them saying, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth. ²³ There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.

²⁴ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, Let the earth bring out living creatures after their kind: cattle, creeping things, and beasts of the earth after their kind: and it was so. ²⁵ TheEternalSovereignToAll made the beasts of the earth after their kind, the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind: and TheEternalSovereignToAll saw that it was good. ²⁶ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, I will make man in My image, after My likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the heavens, over the cattle, over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. ²⁷ TheEternalSovereignToAll created man in His own image, in the image of TheEternalSovereignToAll He created him; male and female He created them. ²⁸ TheEternalSovereignToAll blessed them: and TheEternalSovereignToAll said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, replenish the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moves on the earth. ²⁹ TheEternalSovereignToAll said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it will be for food. ³⁰ Also to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creeps on the earth in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so. ³¹ TheEternalSovereignToAll saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. There was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

    Genesis, Chapter 2, BTSV

¹ The heavens and the earth, with all their company, were finished. ² On the seventh day TheEternalSovereignToAll finished His work which He had made and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. ³ TheEternalSovereignToAll blessed the seventh day and hallowed it; because on it He rested from all His work which TheEternalSovereignToAll had created and made.

⁴ This is the history of the heavens and the earth when Daylight was created and TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, made His Land and Sky. ⁵ No plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had sprung up for TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, had not caused it to rain on the earth: and there was no man to till the ground; ⁶ but a mist went up from the earth that watered the whole face of the ground. ⁷ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ⁸ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there He put the man whom He had formed. ⁹ Out of the ground TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, caused every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food; as well as the tree of life in the middle of the garden with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ¹⁰ A river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it parted to become four heads. ¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon: which compasses the whole land of Havilah where there is gold, ¹² and the gold of that land is good. There is also bdellium and onyx stone. ¹³ The name of the second river is Gihon which compasses the whole land of Cush. ¹⁴ The name of the third river is Hiddekel which flows in front of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates. ¹⁵ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. ¹⁶ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, ¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you will not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die.

¹⁸ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, said, It is not good that the man would be alone; I will make a help mate for him. ¹⁹ Out of the ground TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. ²⁰ The man gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a help mate for him. ²¹ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, caused a deep sleep to fall on the man and he slept. He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh. ²² From the rib which TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to the man. ²³ The man said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: she will be called Woman because she was taken out of Man. ²⁴ Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother and cleave to his wife, and they will be one flesh. ²⁵ They were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

    Genesis, Chapter 3, BTSV

¹ Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, had made. He said to the woman, Has TheEternalSovereignToAll said, You will not eat of any tree of the garden? ² The woman said to the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, ³ but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, TheEternalSovereignToAll has said, You will not eat of it, neither will you touch it, lest you die. ⁴ The serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die: ⁵ for TheEternalSovereignToAll knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like TheEternalSovereignToAll, knowing good and evil. ⁶ When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate; and she gave it also to her husband with her, and he ate. ⁷ The eyes of them both were opened and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons. ⁸ They heard The Voice of TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, walking in the garden in the cool of the day and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, among the trees of the garden.

⁹ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, called to the man and asked him, Where are you? ¹⁰ Adam said, I heard your Voice in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself. ¹¹ Then He said, Who told you that you are naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat? ¹² The man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me gave me of the tree and I ate. ¹³ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, asked the woman, What is this you have done? The woman said, The serpent beguiled me and I ate. ¹⁴ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, said to the serpent, Because you have done this you are cursed above all cattle and above every beast of the field; on your belly will you go and you will eat dust all the days of your life. ¹⁵ I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed: he will bruise your head and you will bruise his heel. ¹⁶ To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply sorrow in your conception; in labor pangs you will bring out children. Your desire will be for your husband and he will rule over you. ¹⁷ To Adam he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you saying, You will not eat of it: the ground is cursed because of you. In toil will you eat of it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ It will bring out thorns and thistles for you and you will eat the herb of the field. ¹⁹ In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground from which you were taken: for you are dust, and to dust you will return. ²⁰ The man called his wife’s name Eve because she was the mother of all living. ²¹ TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, made for Adam and his wife garments of skins and clothed them.

²² TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, said, Behold, the man has become like one of us to know good and evil; and now he must be prevented from putting out his hand to take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever. ²³ Therefore TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. ²⁴ So He drove the man out, He placed Cherabim at the east of the garden of Eden, with the flame of a sword which turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.

    Genesis, Chapter 4, BTSV

¹ The man knew Eve his wife. She conceived and bore Cain and said, I have gotten a man with the help of TheConsistentOne. ² Then she bore his brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep but Cain was a tiller of the ground. ³ In process of time, Cain brought of the fruit of the ground for an offering to TheConsistentOne. ⁴ Abel also brought an offering of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. TheConsistentOne had respect for Abel and for his offering ⁵ but for Cain and for his offering he had no respect. Cain was very angry and his expression fell. ⁶ TheConsistentOne said to Cain, Why are you angry? Why has your expression fallen? ⁷ If you do well will you not be lifted up? If you do not do well sin couches at the door, and you will desire it, but you must rule over it. ⁸ Then as Cain was speaking with his brother Abel in the field, Cain rose up against Abel and killed him.

⁹ TheConsistentOne asked Cain, Where is Abel your brother? He said, I do not know: am I my brother’s keeper? ¹⁰ Then He said, What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. ¹¹ Now you are cursed from the ground which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. ¹² When you till the ground it will not yield its strength to you; you will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth. ¹³ Cain said to TheConsistentOne, My punishment is greater than I can bear. ¹⁴ Behold, you have driven me out this day from the ground. I will be hidden from your face; I will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth; whoever finds me will kill me. ¹⁵ TheConsistentOne said to him, No! Whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold. TheConsistentOne put a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should strike him.

¹⁶ Cain went out from the presence of TheConsistentOne and lived in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. ¹⁷ Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. He built a city and named the city after his son, Enoch. ¹⁸ To Enoch was born Irad: Irad begat Mehujael; Mehujael begat Methushael; and Methushael begat Lamech. ¹⁹ Lamech took two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. ²⁰ Adah bore Jabal: he was the father of those who live in tents and have cattle. ²¹ His brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all those who handle the harp and pipe. ²² Zillah also bore Tubal-cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

²³ Lamech said to his wives,

    Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice;

You wives of Lamech, listen to my speech:

For I have slain a man for wounding me,

A young man for bruising me:

²⁴ If Cain will be avenged sevenfold,

    Truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

²⁵ Adam knew his wife again and she bore a son and called his name Seth. For, she said, TheEternalSovereignToAll has appointed me another seed instead of Abel; for Cain killed him. ²⁶ To Seth also there was born a son; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began to call on the Name of TheConsistentOne.

    Genesis, Chapter 5, BTSV

¹ This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that TheEternalSovereignToAll created man, in the likeness of TheEternalSovereignToAll He made him. ² Male and female He created them, and blessed them, and called their name Man on the day when they were created. ³ Adam lived one hundred and thirty years and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth. ⁴ The days of Adam after he begat Seth were eight hundred years and he begat sons and daughters. ⁵ All the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

⁶ Seth lived one hundred and five years and begat Enosh. ⁷ Seth lived after he begat Enosh eight hundred and seven years and begat sons and daughters. ⁸ All the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years and he died.

⁹ Enosh lived ninety years and begat Kenan. ¹⁰ Enosh lived after he begat Kenan eight hundred and fifteen years and begat sons and daughters. ¹¹ All the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years and he died.

¹² Kenan lived seventy years and begat Mahalalel. ¹³Kenan lived after he begat Mahalalel eight hundred and forty years and begat sons and daughters. ¹⁴ All the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years and he died.

¹⁵ Mahalalel lived sixty-five years and begat Jared. ¹⁶ Mahalalel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years and begat sons and daughters. ¹⁷ All the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred ninety-five years and he died.

¹⁸ Jared lived one hundred sixty-two years and begat Enoch. ¹⁹ Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years and begat sons and daughters. ²⁰ All the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty-two years and he died.

²¹ Enoch lived sixty-five years and begat Methuselah. ²² Enoch walked with TheEternalSovereignToAll after he begat Methuselah three hundred years and begat sons and daughters. ²³ All the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty-five years. ²⁴ Enoch walked with TheEternalSovereignToAll and then he was not, for TheEternalSovereignToAll took him.

²⁵ Methuselah lived one hundred eighty-seven years and begat Lamech. ²⁶ Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty-two years and begat sons and daughters. ²⁷ All the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty-nine years and he died.

²⁸ Lamech lived one hundred eighty-two years and begat a son. ²⁹ He called his name Noah saying, This one will bring us relief in our work and in the toil of our hands which comes because of the ground which TheConsistentOne cursed. ³⁰ Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety-five years and begat sons and daughters. ³¹ All the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy-seven years and he died.

³² Noah was five hundred years old. Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

    Genesis, Chapter 6, BTSV

¹ When men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them, ² the sons of TheEternalSovereignToAll saw that the daughters of men were fair and they took wives of all that they chose. ³ TheConsistentOne said, My Spirit will not strive with man endlessly over his errors because he is also flesh [spirit and flesh]: so his days will be [limited to] one hundred and twenty years. ⁴ The Nephilim were on the earth in those days and also after that, when the sons of TheEternalSovereignToAll came in to the daughters of men and they bore children who became the mighty men of old, the men of renown.

⁵ TheConsistentOne saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth and that all the imaginations and thoughts of his heart are only evil continually. ⁶ TheConsistentOne regretted that He had made man on the earth and it grieved Him in His heart. ⁷ TheConsistentOne said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; the men, the beasts, the creeping things, and the birds of the heavens; for I have made them. ⁸ But Noah found favor in the eyes of TheConsistentOne.

⁹ These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man and perfect in his generations: Noah walked with TheEternalSovereignToAll. ¹⁰ Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. ¹¹ The earth was corrupt before TheEternalSovereignToAll and the earth was filled with violence. ¹² TheEternalSovereignToAll saw the earth and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

¹³ TheEternalSovereignToAll said to Noah, The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence through them and, behold, I will destroy them from the earth. ¹⁴ Make an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark and coat it inside and out with pitch. ¹⁵ This is how you will make it: the length of the ark three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. ¹⁶ Make a window into the ark a cubit [square], finished overhead; and the door of the ark you will set in its side; with lower, second, and third stories you will make it. ¹⁷ I, behold, I will bring the flood of waters on this earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life from under heaven; everything that is on the earth will die. ¹⁸ But I will establish My covenant with you and you will come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. ¹⁹ Of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort you will bring into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they will be male and female. ²⁰ Of the birds after their kind, of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort will come to you to keep them alive. ²¹ Take to yourself some of all food that is eaten and gather it to you. It will be food for you, and for them. ²² Thus Noah did; according to all that TheEternalSovereignToAll commanded him, so he did.

    Genesis, Chapter 7, BTSV

¹ TheConsistentOne said to Noah, Come, you and all your house into the ark; for I have seen you righteous before Me in this generation. ² Of every clean beast you will take to you seven and seven, the male and his female; and of the beasts that are not clean two, the male and his female. ³ Also, of the birds of the heavens, seven and seven, male and female, to keep seed alive on the face of all the earth. ⁴ For after seven days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living thing that I have made I will destroy from off the face of the ground. ⁵ Noah did according to all that TheConsistentOne commanded him.

⁶ Noah was six hundred years old when the flood waters were on the earth. ⁷ Noah went in, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. ⁸ Of clean beasts, of beasts that are not clean, of birds, and of everything that creeps on the ground, ⁹ there went in two and two to Noah into the ark, male and female, as TheEternalSovereignToAll commanded Noah. ¹⁰ After the seven days the waters of the flood were on the earth. ¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second moon, on the seventeenth day of the moon, on the same day, all the fountains of the great deep were broken up and the windows of heaven were opened. ¹² The rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.

¹³ On the same day Noah, with Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, as well as Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons, entered into the ark. ¹⁴ They, and every beast after its kind, all the cattle after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort. ¹⁵ They went to Noah, into the ark, two and two of all flesh in which is the breath of life. ¹⁶ Those who went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as TheEternalSovereignToAll commanded him: TheConsistentOne shut him in. ¹⁷ The flood was forty days on the earth. As the waters increased they bore up the ark and it was lifted up above the earth. ¹⁸ The waters prevailed, increasing greatly on the earth; and the ark floated on the face of the waters. ¹⁹ The waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth and all the high mountains that were under the whole heaven were covered. ²⁰ The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward and the mountains were covered. ²¹ All flesh died that moved on the earth, including birds, cattle, beasts, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man. ²² All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died. ²³ Every living thing was destroyed that was on the face of the ground including man, cattle, creeping things, and birds of the heavens. They were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only was left, with those who were with him in the ark. ²⁴ The waters prevailed on the earth one hundred and fifty days.

    Genesis, Chapter 8, BTSV

¹ TheEternalSovereignToAll remembered Noah, and all the beasts, and all the cattle that were with him in the ark. So TheEternalSovereignToAll brought a wind over the earth and the waters eased. ² The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were closed so that the rain from heaven was restrained. ³ The waters receded from the earth continually and after the end of one hundred and fifty days the waters had abated. ⁴ The ark rested in the seventh moon, on the seventeenth day of the moon, on the mountains of Ararat. ⁵ The waters decreased continually until the tenth moon. In the tenth moon, on the first day of the moon, the tops of the mountains were seen.

⁶ At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. ⁷ He sent out a raven and it went out to-and-fro until the waters were dried up from off the earth. ⁸ He sent out a dove to see if the waters were abated from the face of the ground, ⁹ but the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot and she returned to him in the ark; for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. He put out his hand and brought her into the ark. ¹⁰ He stayed another seven days, and again he sent out the dove from the ark; ¹¹ and the dove came in to him in the evening; and, look, in her mouth a plucked off olive-leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had abated from off the earth. ¹² He stayed another seven days and sent out the dove, and she did not return to him.

¹³ In the six hundred and first year, in the first moon, on the first day of the moon, the waters were dried up from off the earth. Noah removed the covering of the ark and, behold, the face of the ground was dried. ¹⁴ In the second moon, on the twenty-seventh day of the moon, the earth was dry. ¹⁵ TheEternalSovereignToAll spoke to Noah saying, ¹⁶ Go out from the ark, you, your wife, your sons, and your sons’ wives with you. ¹⁷ Bring out every living thing that is with you of all flesh including birds, cattle, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth; so that they may breed abundantly in the earth; to be fruitful and multiply on the earth. ¹⁸ Noah went out with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives: ¹⁹ every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, whatever moves on the earth, after their families, went out of the ark.

²⁰ Noah built an altar to TheConsistentOne, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean bird, and offered burnt-offerings on the altar. ²¹ TheConsistentOne smelled the sweet aroma and TheConsistentOne said in His heart, I will not curse the ground any longer for man’s sake, because the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again strike everything living as I have done. ²² While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.

    Genesis, Chapter 9, BTSV

¹ TheEternalSovereignToAll blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. ² The fear of you and the dread of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the heavens; on all with which the ground teems and on all the fishes of the sea. They are all delivered into your hand. ³ Every moving thing that lives will be food for you; as I gave the green herb to you, I have given you all. ⁴ But flesh with its life in it, which is its blood, you will not eat. ⁵ Surely your blood, the blood of your lives, I will require; at the hand of every beast I will require it: and at the hand of man, even at the hand of every man’s brother, I will require the life of man. [This life is temporary; He takes it back.] ⁶ Whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood will be shed by man: for in the image of TheEternalSovereignToAll He made man. ⁷ Be fruitful and multiply; bring out abundantly on the earth and multiply in it.

⁸ TheEternalSovereignToAll spoke to Noah, and to his sons with him saying, ⁹ I, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your seed after you; ¹⁰ and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that go out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. ¹¹ I will establish My covenant with you; never again will all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, nor will there ever again be a flood to destroy the earth. ¹² TheEternalSovereignToAll said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: ¹³ I have set My bow in the storm-cloud and it will serve as a token of the covenant between Me and the earth. ¹⁴ When I bring a storm-cloud over the earth, the bow will be seen in the covering-cloud ¹⁵ and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh. The waters will not ever become a flood to destroy all flesh. ¹⁶ The bow will be in the storm-cloud; and I will look on it, so that I remember the everlasting covenant between TheEternalSovereignToAll and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth. ¹⁷ TheEternalSovereignToAll said to Noah, This is the token of the covenant which I have established between Myself and all flesh that is on the earth.

¹⁸ The sons of Noah who came out from the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. ¹⁹ These three were the sons of Noah: and from these the whole earth was overspread.

²⁰ Noah began to be a husbandman and planted a vineyard. ²¹ He drank some of the wine and was drunk; and he was uncovered within his tent. ²² Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside. ²³ Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. They faced away, so they did not see their father’s nakedness. ²⁴ Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his youngest son had done to him. ²⁵ Then he said,

    Cursed be Canaan;

A servant of servants he will be to his brothers.

    ²⁶ He said,

    Blessings of TheConsistentOne, TheEternalSovereignToAll, on Shem;

    Let Canaan be his servant.

    ²⁷May TheEternalSovereignToAll enlarge Japheth,

    Let him live in the tents of Shem;

    Let Canaan be his servant.

²⁸ Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. ²⁹ All the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

    Genesis, Chapter 10, BTSV

¹ Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, namely, of Shem, Ham, and Japheth: sons were born to them after the flood.

² The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. ³ The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphas, and Togarmah. ⁴ The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. ⁵ Among these the isles of the nations were divided in their lands, everyone after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

⁶ The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. ⁷ The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba, and Dedan. ⁸ Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one on the earth. ⁹ He was a mighty hunter before TheConsistentOne: For that reason, it is said, Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before TheConsistentOne. ¹⁰ The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. ¹¹ Out of that land he went into Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, ¹² and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (the same is the great city). ¹³ Mizraim begat Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, ¹⁴ Pathrusim, and Casluhim (where the Philistines came from), and Caphtorim.

¹⁵ Canaan begat Sidon his first-born, and Heth, ¹⁶ the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, ¹⁷ the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, ¹⁸ the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward, the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad. ¹⁹ The border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; and as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. ²⁰ These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands and in their nations.

²¹ Children were also born to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber and the elder brother of Japheth. ²² The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. ²³ The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. ²⁴ Arpachshad begat Shelah; and Shelah begat Eber. ²⁵ To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg; for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan. ²⁶ Joktan begat Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²⁷ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²⁸ Obal, Abimael, Sheba, ²⁹ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan. ³⁰ They lived from Mesha, as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east. ³¹ These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, and in their nations.

³² These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and from these the nations were divided on the earth after the flood.

    Genesis, Chapter 11, BTSV

¹ The whole earth had one language and one speech. ² As they journeyed east they found a plain in the land of Shinar and they lived there. ³ They said to one another, Come, let us make brick and burn them thoroughly. They had brick for stone and they had asphalt for mortar. ⁴ They said, Come, let us build ourselves a city with a tower whose top reaches to heaven and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the face of the whole earth. ⁵ TheConsistentOne came down to see the city and the tower which the children of men built. ⁶ TheConsistentOne said, Behold, they are one people and they all have one language; and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them which they intend to do. ⁷ Come, let us go down and confuse their language, so that they do not understand one another’s speech. ⁸ So TheConsistentOne scattered them abroad from there on the face of all the earth: and they left off building the city. ⁹ Therefore the name of it was Babel; because TheConsistentOne confused the language of all the earth there. From there TheConsistentOne scattered them abroad on the face of all the earth.

¹⁰ These are the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old and begat Arpachshad two years after the flood. ¹¹ Shem lived after he begat Arpachshad five hundred years and begat sons and daughters.

¹² Arpachshad lived thirty-five years and begat Shelah. ¹³ Arpachshad lived after he begat Shelah four hundred and three years and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁴ Shelah lived thirty years and begat Eber. ¹⁵ Shelah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁶ Eber lived thirty-four years, and begat Peleg. ¹⁷ Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁸ Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu. ¹⁹ Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years and begat sons and daughters.

²⁰ Reu lived thirty-two years and begat Serug. ²¹ Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years and begat sons and daughters.

²² Serug lived thirty years and begat Nahor. ²³ Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years and begat sons and daughters.

²⁴ Nahor lived twenty-nine years and begat Terah. ²⁵ Nahor lived after he begat Terah one hundred and nineteen years and begat sons and daughters.

²⁶ Terah lived seventy years and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

²⁷ Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. ²⁸ Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. ²⁹ Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, who was the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah. ³⁰ Sarai was barren; She had no child. ³¹ Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went out from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; but when they came to Haran they lived there. ³² The days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

    Genesis, Chapter 12, BTSV

¹ Now TheConsistentOne said to Abram, Get yourself out of your country, away from your kindred and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. ² I will make you a great nation. I will bless you, make your name great; and be a blessing to you. ³ I will bless those who bless you and those who curse you I will curse. In you all the families of the earth will be blessed.

⁴ So Abram went, as TheConsistentOne had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed out of Haran. ⁵ Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, with all their possessions and the people that they had gotten in Haran; and they went out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came into the land of Canaan, ⁶ Abram passed through the land to Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. The Canaanites were in the land at that time. ⁷ Then TheConsistentOne appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your seed: and he built an alter there to TheConsistentOne, who appeared to him. ⁸ He removed himself from there to the mountain on the east of Beth-el and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to TheConsistentOne and called on the Name of TheConsistentOne. ⁹ Abram journeyed, going on still further toward the South.

¹⁰ There was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was bitter in the land. ¹¹ When he was about to enter Egypt he said to Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that you are a fair woman to look on. ¹² When the Egyptians see you they will say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save you alive. ¹³ I pray you, say that you are my sister so that it may be well with me for your sake, and that my soul may live because of you. ¹⁴ When Abram had come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman, that she was very fair. ¹⁵ The princes of Pharaoh saw her and praised her to Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house. ¹⁶ He dealt well with Abram for her sake: so that he had sheep, oxen, he-asses, men-servants, maid-servants, she-asses, and camels.

¹⁷ TheConsistentOne plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. ¹⁸ Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? ¹⁹ Why did you say, She is my sister, so that I took her to be my wife? Now therefore, here is your wife. Take her and go your way. ²⁰ Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him: so they brought him on his way with his wife and all that he had.

    Genesis, Chapter 13, BTSV

¹ Abram went up out of Egypt with his wife and Lot and all that he had, into the South. ² Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. ³ He went on his journeys from the South to Beth-el, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Ai, ⁴ to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the Name of TheConsistentOne. ⁵ Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, herds, and tents. ⁶ The land was not able to support both of them together, for their substance was so great that they could not live together. ⁷ There was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle. The Canaanites and the Perizzites also lived there then. ⁸ Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife between me and you and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are family. ⁹ Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me, I pray you. If you will take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you take the right hand, I will go to the left. ¹⁰ Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere before TheConsistentOne destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. It was like the garden of TheConsistentOne, like the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar. ¹¹ So Lot chose for himself all the Plain of the Jordan; and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated themselves the one from the other. ¹² Abram lived in the land of Canaan while Lot lived in the cities of the Plain and moved his tent as far as Sodom. ¹³ Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked sinners against TheConsistentOne.

¹⁴ TheConsistentOne said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, Now lift your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward: ¹⁵ for all the land which you see, I will give to you and to your seed forever. ¹⁶ I will
