Chapter 1: School Trip

CLANK, CLANK, CLANK… a sound comes from the dark tunnel in front of Niko and he walks in closer. He begins to shake as a cold wind swipes past his neck, then he hears another noise. SCRATCH, SCRATCH, SCRATCH… his feet move against his will as the little boy approaches the dark. He looks inside, hoping to see what is causing the noise, but only sees pitch black. So he moves in further, and suddenly a single, giant eyeball appears. It floats in the darkness, glowing like a terrifying orange moon. Niko freezes to the spot as the ball of light hovers around and starts to move in closer.

Don't be scared, Niko, the eye says. Niko stumbles back, confused and scared.

How...how do you know my name? the boy asks the eye monster.

Because you’re gonna be my friend, silly, it answers. I’ll be seeing you real soon, it adds with a creepy voice. That’s when a large sound starts booming around him, over and over, an irritating ringing that forces the light to disappear completely.

The alarm clock goes off like a siren blaring through the room, waking Niko from his dream. He flips over in his bed and smashes his fist onto the button.

It was just a bad dream, he tells himself as he rubs the sleep out of the corners of his eyes. Niko lies squished between his pillows, annoyed at the vivid red numbers showing 7.30am. He is about to roll back over to get some more sleep when he realises what day it is. Excited and now wide awake, Niko launches himself out of bed and heads for the wardrobe.
