About this ebook

80's Love is a love/hate drama that takes us back to the Crack Era. In the mid 80's crack cocaine hit Detroit like wildfire. Families seemed to crumble overnight. Here is a microscopic look into one of those families. Lil Tony is a 14-year-old whiz kid that finds himself in unthinkable situations. He nor his younger siblings had seen their mother in days, and food got scarce. Confused and frustrated the Lil Tony jumps off the porch.
The crack era exploded on the scene with newfound wealth, but there was also a new level of violence. This was the era Lil Tony stepped off the porch in, and he became no starnger to the wrath of violence. The kid finds himself in a fight for his life, where he is forced to fight back or die.
Across the tracks was a beautiful young street worker that went by the name of Plum. Plum was a 19-year-old baby doll. Fly, quick witted, but Plum was trapped into a very abusive relationship. She plotted her escape before her pimp killed her, and the new crack wave may be her way out. She met a hustler that could boss her up. But the 80's had other plans. In the most bizarre way, Plum and Lil Tony cross paths and their friendship becomes a necessity to survive the deadly attacks of grown men.
80's Love is an emotional rollercoaster. It's insightful, dramatic, and extremely entertaining. This is the first episode in an ongoing series. The short book packaging has dual purpose. One is if you are on a long bus ride to Atlanta, or on a long flight to California, 80's Love is the perfect companion. A fun episode that's personal, and sexy. You won't be able to put it down.
Now, the second reason for the short story packaging is the vision. My vision is to see 80's Love on the big screen. That's how the series broke down. Each book is broken down into an episode. Episode 2 will drop in November. Episode 3 will drop in December. By the time, your ride down south is over, you'll be searching Smashwords for the Episode 2.

    Chapter 1

Lil Tony sat staring at the television, barely watching the show blaring over the speaker.

'Why are some people born rich, while others are born poor?' He contemplated this thought, as he watched the television.

Tonight, could possibly be the second night in a row that he and his younger brother and sister would go to bed hungry. The trio kept gazing at the door in hopes that their mother would walk through it. Late it became clear, ‘She ain’t comin.’

'Not tonight,' Tony shook his head. He jumped up off the couch and snatched up his hoody.

Al, make sure you keep this door locked, he told his younger brother.

Where you goin? Al asked. Lil Tony stormed out the door without answer.

Tony stepped out into the night asking himself that very same question. 'Where am I going?'

He stepped off the porch trying to form some type of plan. He turned right and started walking. 'I should go find mom and make her give us some money,' Tony grimaced. 'Running around with her new boyfriend.' He hated the guy. Lonnie was his name. He was loud, and disrespectful.

'... where can I find a lick?' The kid stopped and looked around. The street was quiet. No people walked, nothing out to steal. 'Fuck it,' he headed for Grand River. If there was anything out here to be found, Grand River would be the street to find it. It was one of Detroit's busiest streets. Grand River never slept.

'I hope Wally fat ass gone,' he began forming some type of plan. The neighborhood store sat on the corner of Washburn and Grand River. It was named after its owner, Wally's. Wally no longer allowed Lil Tony in his store. The obese Arab owner caught Lil Tony stealing on several occasions.

Tony decided to stand outside of the store to wait on someone to walk out. He looked up at the sound of the bell on top of the door ringing. A stranger walked out carrying a 40-ounce bottle of beer, wrapped tight inside of a brown paper sack.

Hey, is fat ass Wally in tonight? Tony looked on hopeful.

Yea, he in there, the stranger answered, but kept it moving. The citizens of Detroit were not too friendly, especially at night.

Damn, Lil Tony cursed under his breath. He had to find a plan B.

The streets of Detroit were no place for a fourteen-year-old boy to be roaming at night, but images of his baby sister crying gave him the courage to keep moving.

Tony turned down Washburn, thirsty. Tall for fourteen years old. Almost standing 6'1. He walked with his head slightly bowed. The hoody he wore was extra big, so he could easily be mistaken for an adult. A very slim adult, but he still did not look like prey walking down the street. He looked more like a lone wolf, out on his first hunt alone.

The inexperience was evident in the way Tony scanned the streets. Very reminiscent of a young wolf searching the barren region for the first time. No idea where food might be.

The hoody Tony wore was possibly the only thing intimidating about him. Once anyone laid eyes on his young handsome face, all alarm would flee. Light brown complexion, Tony had his mother's smile. A charming mischievous smile that met the eyes. Roaming the streets at night was the last place one would expect the kid. A good kid normally, but all of that was out the window tonight. His young eyes scanned the streets for anything of value.

Time moved by fast. An hour and a half slid by, and Tony still found himself empty handed. He searched the neighborhood high and low. With so many dope fiends running the streets at night, people were in the habit of locking up all prized possessions. He could have easily stolen a few hubcaps to sell, but Fat Cat at the junkyard wouldn't be open this late.

Frustrated, Tony worked his way back up to Grand River by Wally's. He ducked into the shadows of an apartment building doorway and contemplated his next move. His mind wandered as he watched the cars go by.

    ***

Plum climbed out of the car of her new john and straightened out her mini skirt. She'd finally hooked herself a big one. A Moose, she liked to call the big catches. This was a real big one. He spent money the entire night and made sure to give her a huge tip. Plum refused to have sex with him. She was looking to hook this Moose long term. He never suspected her of being a prostitute. Just a young woman out on a store run when he spotted her.

Plum made sure to put her walk on thick when she walked away from the car. She knew that the walk was everything to getting him to call back. She put it on thick. The hips swung with an extra flare at the end of each step. Slightly bow legged, men salivated at the mouth watching Plum walk by. Disco was no different. He leaned over the front seat of his Trans Am to watch her butt sway from side to side.

    Damn!

It was like watching poetry. Disco rolled his window down and leaned across the seat to call behind her. Girl you gon call me tomorrow?

Yeah. What time you want me to call?

Shid soon as you get up! You ain't gotta leave for real.

Yes, I do, Plum looked over into the car and laughed. I told you I got a son. She walked along the sidewalk while Disco slowly drove beside her.

Just beep me when you get up. I be up early.

Plum raised her hand to wave bye. I'm beeping yo ass soon as my feet hit the floor, she mumbled.

Her Moose was named Disco, and Disco passed money out like it was penny candy. 'I ain't never seen nobody spend money like that,' she marveled.

He stopped her a couple of days ago walking down Grand River and demanded most of her time ever since. Disco was slightly plump, with this macho swag that screamed dope boy. The big donkey rope swinging from his neck looked like it was thicker than Plum's wrist. The miniature disco ball swinging from the bottom of the rope was the highlight of the chain. The disco ball was covered in diamonds. Brush waves, boyish charm that softened the macho some... not much. But Disco was cute.

He swore he was the smoothest shit out. Something Plum liked about him. The black and gold 79 Trans Am didn't hurt the swag.

Plum suspected that Disco was dealing in cocaine. The new big thing in the streets. Whatever he was dealing in, she was happy to be a recipient of its fruit.

'If I can keep him on the hook? Damn! I can get off this strip,’ she marveled at the thought.

Disco took her out to eat at a neighborhood hot spot called 'My Grannies.' The whole crowd was totally different from what she was used too. A bunch of young guys flaunting their success.

Truck jewelry, Levi jeans, and Adidas gym shoes. That was the attire. No shark skin suits, or Stacy Adams. Ball caps instead of Doobs. There was no Marvin Gaye, or Teddy blaring from car speakers. These guys listened to rap. Run D.M.C., Whodini. There wasn't a Cadillac in sight. Plum ran all of this through her head as she walked. Her fangs came out just thinking about the crowd at My Grannies.

Without having sex with Disco, he had given her $500 for her troubles. On a hard-working day, she only averages $200. 'Crazy. I can give Lonnie nothin ass his $150, and still pocket $350!'

Plum quickly ducked into the doorway of an apartment building to separate her money from her pimp's. She knew she had to move fast. Lonnie could pull up at any time. She pulled the money out of her purse and quickly peeled off $350. Plum hurried to double folded the money, then carefully pinned the money up in her wig. Lonnie
