On July 19, 1989, Martha Conant was on her way to Philadelphia to work with a client. She didn’t even look at her ticket until she was at the airport. She was assigned a seat in the last row. She checked the display boards and saw that she could wait a couple of hours for a nonstop flight instead of this one, which was making a stop in Chicago.
#2
Susan White, a flight attendant, was assigned to service drinks in the second row from the back of the plane. She began serving drinks, but soon realized that something was wrong when she saw the head flight attendant, Jan Brown, coming towards her with a stern expression on her face.

#7
On July 19, 1989, Brown made the preflight safety announcement. She first carefully checked what she called her demo card, the safety instructions found in the pocket on the back of every seat.
#8
As the plane descended, Dvorak informed the crew that they would fly slower to Chicago. Brown said that the atmosphere on the plane was not an emergency, but a crisis. She did not usually talk that way.
#9
The plane was banking to the right and sinking fast. First class passenger Jan Brown saw how pale and defeated her captain looked as he
