About Debbie Mumford
Chapter 1
Jane Ann Kremetz experienced an interesting mix of exhaustion and exhilaration as she hurried along the snow packed street. The Christmas Stroll always had that effect on her. She worked herself until she could barely stand in the weeks leading up the annual holiday event—she was responsible for making sure everything ran smoothly, ensuring the community a memorable experience—but when the big day arrived, she received a jolt of energy from Main Street’s festive atmosphere and the strollers’ delighted chatter. That buzz always lasted until she fell into bed long after The Strolls lights dimmed and all the revelers returned home.
This year, like every other year, Main Street was closed to traffic for the free community event. Folks would turn out in droves to stroll the six block stretch this evening, singing carols, munching cookies and candy canes, and buying last minute Christmas gifts. Now a group of stalwart volunteers were moving the finished masterpieces to the Main Street bank lobby where strollers could marvel at the local children’s ingenuity. Jane Ann was officially off duty for the rest of the evening. The Stroll would officially begin in a few minutes, and she intended to enjoy the event to the fullest.
Dressed in her warmest down jacket and ski pants, her fingers protected by warm woolen mittens knitted in a snowflake pattern, Jane Ann pulled her jacket’s fur trimmed
