Introduction
The Aztec civilization has captivated the world since its inception. They emerged on the central Mexican plateau in the 13th century and soon rose to become the most powerful civilization of all time. One of the oldest civilizations in the Americas, the Aztec empire flourished for a little over two centuries and was at its peak when the Spanish arrived in 1519. They defended their territory from rivals in every direction until the Spanish finally defeated them in 1521.
One of the most studied cultures in history,
