About this ebook

It Is Written by Shearon Hurst will fill your heart with the truths and promises of God’s Word. Because
when you speak the Word, it comes forth with power and brings about remarkable success in every area
of your life.

For there is great power in the spoken Word of the Lord, and Shearon has the gift of channeling these
Words, making them accessible and applicable to any challenge you may face.

This inspiring book of biblical interpretation and heartfelt devotions will remind you of how Jesus used
the Word to defeat satan, heal the sick, and set free those who were bound by the enemy.
And so it is that you, too, can use the Word in the same way to live victoriously over the works of the enemy.
“Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Moreover, the Lord said we would do greater works than Him because He was going to His Father.
“Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do and greater works than these will he do” (John
14:12). So isn’t it time we started doing those greater works?

It Is Written will encourage you, strengthen you, lift you up, and set you on fire to destroy the works of the
enemy coming against you. As you read and pray through this book with a believing heart––and speak the
Words––you will realize the Holy Spirit is speaking through you and His Word, just as effectively as when
Jesus Himself spoke.

So do not allow anyone or anything to cause you to fear and doubt God’s Word. Hold fast to your confession
of faith and expect to see God move on your situation. Confess the countless Scriptures quoted in this book,
personalize them and make them your own statement of faith. Store the Word of God up in your hearts,
and let it overflow from your mouth. What an awesome way of harmonizing your life with the blessed will
of God

I've been in the ministry for over 20 years. My writing ministry has been blessing people on the internet for over 10 years with words of encouragement to strengthen and comfort those in their walk with the Lord.“Are You Ready to Receive the Love You Desire” was my first book, and I just released my second book entitled "Where Peaceful Waters Flow", which is a devotional book. I am currently working on my third book "The Storm Will Stop, Don't Jump Ship", which is filled with inspirational stories about surviving through the storms of life. It should be released soon. I am really excited about it, and I hope you will be too!I'm studying Christian Counseling at Crown College. I have 4 wonderful (grown) children, and 6 beautiful grandchildren. When I am not busy with the ministry or writing, I'm trying out new dessert recipes (I love to bake), and listening to some good inspirational music. I enjoy spending time with my family whenever possible (especially the grandchildren), and traveling with my daughters Chelle, Angee, and my niece Christina, I think they keep me young,

It Is Written - Shearon Hurst

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ. Your mercy and grace continue to amaze me each and every day. Lord, I am confident of this very thing, that He which has begun a good work in me will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Lord, I commit this book to You, and I pray the message will touch people's hearts.  Let my concepts and writings be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

You are the JOY and the STRENGTH of my life. You are my EVERYTHING. I love You, Lord.

Lord, I am still writing so they will know that You are real.

    Acknowledgments

I thank my wonderful daughters, Angee and Chelle, and my sons Les and Henry. God bless you, and I thank you for always being there for me through the good times and the bad. It’s because of your love, that I am able to keep my eyes on the vision that the Lord has imparted into me. I love you so very much and I am ever so grateful for everything you’re doing for me.

My dear friend Linda Standard, thank you ever so much for your words of encouragement, prayers and for standing with me to complete this book.

Tom Seibert - Christian Editor Connection, thank you for always being there to help me bring the Kingdom’s work to completion. I thank God for bringing us together.

    Endorsements

Dear Reader, prepare yourself for possibly the very best literary experience you may ever know or have known concerning the Bible and GOD'S Intention of it concerning you. IT IS WRITTEN will hold fast your attention and bring tears to your understanding, and answer questions you may have thought you would never get to know here on Earth. I have found so much Revelation in every paragraph that at times, I have asked myself, how can this be? How can this be what? you ask, how can this be so simplistic.

In all of my reading and listening to the WORD preached, I always and even to this day ask the question of "where is the rest of it? You see some Pastors and Preachers have really exploited the use of preaching the WORD but not going into the necessary details of explaining it thoroughly enough for one to even execute a plan of action to overcome the attacks of the enemy(perhaps controversial because we are instructed by the HOLY SPIRIT in the way we should go), Here Sister Shearon gives us the WORD and then instructs us on how to make it effective in our lives.

This standpoint is not to take anything away from the Holy Spirit’s responsibility to guide us and lead us into all truth and understanding; but to assist us on being guided by HIM. At times I have felt anxious in reading the passages because I wanted to let her know how on point this book was resonating in my spirit.

I Pray you too will be charged or energized to know that what you are holding in your hands is the companion to what is already WRITTEN and ABBA FATHER HIMSELF Anointed and Approved it to HIS GLORY. Be Encouraged to continue in your journey with the necessary tools to make overcoming the plots, plans and schemes of the enemy, without fear as our Heavenly FATHER instructed in Joshua 1:9. I give YAH all the GLORY, HONOR and PRAISE because it is indeed by HIS indwelling Spirit in and through Sister Shearon that we have been Blessed. Again, I say thank you for your servitude to the KINGDOM of GOD. AGAPE.

Reading those three words, IT IS WRITTEN, gave me a quickening in my spirit.  And then saying them out loud, immediately made my heart jump!

I BELIEVE…those three words of Jesus, are the Holy Trinity of the human language! Once prefaced to His word of scripture, it sets up our weapons of POWER and we are in agreement with our Father.

Our FAITH, TRUST and BELIEF are activated to the highest degree…giving us POWER to DEFEAT the enemy! You can feel that POWER EXPLODE in your heart and soul as it BREATHES LIFE INTO HIS WORD and your PRAYERS

And here is my pattern of belief…

    " IT IS WRITTEN" …

    It is DONE…

    It is FINISHED…

VICTORY is mine… IN JESUS’ NAME

    Linda Standard

There is so much meat in this inspiring book, and we encourage you to taste and see just how good, how trustworthy, and how faithful our Almighty God is. Throughout the pages of this book, we are reminded that God is true to His word and that He watches over His word to perform it.

Minister Shearon Hurst is a gifted vessel who allows herself to be used by God to bless many through her inspirational writings. Her 5th book, IT IS WRITTEN, encourages, inspires, enlightens, and offers peace to troubled minds. We are recommending this book because it has been a tremendous blessing to us, and we truly believe it will be to you as well. Pick it up. Taste and see.

We were blessed by Minister Shearon's 5th book just as we were by her first book, Where Peaceful Waters Flow. Several elements of the book that spoke directly to us are found on pages 30-31 dealing with Scriptures to cure worry, and the prayer on page 245 which offers help when burdened and depressed. Both elements are backed up with the written Word of God.

Minister Shearon Hurst is undeniably an anointed vessel of God. There is power in proclaiming the word of God. I have spent endless nights in the pain of the loss of my sister, the abandonment of my ex-husband, living as a single mom trying to make ends meet on top of the added pressures of life. It was through the morning devotions and books of Minister Shearon Hurst that I was able to find encouragement and solace in the word of God.

Once again, God has used Minister Shearon through this book, ‘It Is Written.’  It is Written has tremendously encouraged and equipped me to pray specific prayers proclaiming the word of God and holding on to His promises. I couldn’t put this book down.  In fact, I keep these pages handy and carry it along with my Bible. It is my reminder that God’s word is real, living and applies to every area and circumstance in my life. I can’t wait to share this with others.  Reading this book was like comforting myself with a blanket of encouragement and inspiration. It is a powerful go to guide that reminds you that even with Struggles In Our Lives God is with you and has a purpose for it. This book gave me the courage [to encourage myself and when I do, God will see that, listen and deliver me]

God listens and He is ready to answer. This book has an abundance of encouragement, Bible verses to proclaim and specific prayers to guide your prayer life. This book is my new Bible sidekick. Whether you are yearning to increase your boldness for Christ or waiting on the Lord to answer your prayers, It is Written will encourage you to hold on to His word. There is so much guidance and inspiration found in this book. I urge those who seek to draw closer to God to pick up this book and allow the power of God’s word to work within you. Remember, we are in a spiritual war which requires us to be still, holding on to the word of God while fully trusting in Him so that we can be victorious in this battle. Our success is found in our meditation of the word.  The Lord will fight for us if we allow Him. It is Written, now it is your turn to proclaim it.

Minister Shearon’s new book, It is Written, is a valuable, handy resource tool to help inform, encourage, and support anyone wanting to know what the Scripture states about a wide variety of important, selected topics. Her book is very readable, practical, and helpful and offers in-depth Scriptures as well as prayers to help the readers grow in the knowledge of the Word of God as they are strengthened in their spiritual walk. I have been receiving your devotional for a few years now. I cannot recall how I subscribed to the same, but I know it was the Lord. There have been instances where through the devotionals Lord told me what He will be doing in my life next, and they came to pass. There are some unbelievable things that have happened to me.  My journey cannot be explained in words as the power and love of our Lord Jesus Christ is more real than all of us. I fully endorse Shearon’s daily words of encouragement and her books as I know Lord Jesus is in the center of the same.

God Bless and Keep leading you on his path.

    Preface

    God’s Word in the Beginning

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1:1-3

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, Let there be light; and there was light. Genesis 1:1-3

God is His Word, and His Word is Him. The Bible and Christ are called the Word of God. The Bible is God’s written Word. Jesus Christ is God’s personal Word. God spoke and things happened. The entire first chapter of the book of Genesis is filled with "Then God said. And Then God said" continues until the end of the chapter, and then we read:

Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So, the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus, the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Genesis 1:31; 2:1-2

With His Word, God spoke this world into existence. Without His Word we are nothing. It is very important for us to know Him, His Word, and the power of His Word. We need to understand what the Word means and how to apply it to our lives. When we know what the Word means, then we can know what God has done for us and what God wants to do for us. His Word blesses us. [Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, James 1:17]. And it will bring us closer to Him.

    God’s Word

The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

God’s Word is alive. God is not dead, He is alive, and if God is alive [and He is], then His Word is alive. His Word is living, and it brings life and healing whenever and wherever it is spoken. God’s Word will destroy every lie that satan has ever told. No matter what satan has said, it dies when it is confronted with the Word of the Lord.

God’s Word is light; it enables us to see. God’s word will show you what’s going on in your life and in your world. When we understand the Word, it is like a lamp that guides us throughout all Scripture and our Christian life. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105).

God’s Word is not only light, but God’s Word is food. Jesus said: It is written, ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’ (Matthew 4:4). The word of the Lord is right, and all His works are in truth [Psalms 33:4]. The living Word of God is all that we need to live above the mountains of life’s fiery furnace. The Lord is the One, the only One who will keep us from falling.

God’s Word is a tool for building. ‘Is not My word like fire,’ declares the Lord, ‘and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?’" (Jeremiah 23:29). Oftentimes, God’s Word will break things down before it will build up. God’s Word is a tool for breaking down the old life and building up a new life. And God’s Word is the only instrument that is sharp enough to pierce the soul and separate it from what is soulish and what is spiritual.

The Word of God is a weapon that teaches and enables us to fight. Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight [Psalms 144:1]. And in Ephesians, we are told: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God [Ephesians 6:16-17]. The Word of God is powerful. God’s Word will lift our burden. It will lead you out of darkness, be food for you when you are weak. It will help you to build up new things, and tear down old places, and strengthen you to fight.

What the Word Does for Us

    Our Heavenly Father is so interested in every aspect of our lives, we can run to His Word in our pain, grief, loneliness, or sickness and receive help in our time of trouble. My soul melts from heaviness;

Strengthen me according to Your word (Psalms 119:28).

God’s Word directs us to wisdom. The entrance of Your Words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple (Psalms 119:130). God’s Word is our greatest protection. It’s a shield that surrounds us, guarding our way and warning of danger. God will take us from glory to glory as we meditate, study, and apply the Word of God. Therefore, we must not neglect reading and obeying the Word; if we do, we won’t be able to distinguish right from wrong.

God’s Word will bring us joy. When we love the Word, we will find great joy and comfort in reading it. Your written instructions are mine forever. They are the joy of my heart (Psalms 119:111). When facing tough situations and discouragement, our first response should be to open and read the Word. Sometimes, we don’t know where to read, and it’s during these times the Holy Spirit will lead us to a passage that will restore our joy and bring peace in the midst of the storm.

God’s Word will guide our steps. Psalm 119:105 says, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. If we read and follow the Lord’s instructions, He will show us where to go, what to say, and how to make decisions. His Word will also reveal when we’re heading in the wrong direction and warn us of the consequences of continuing down that path.

God’s Word gives us peace. One thing we desire and that’s most precious to us is peace, and not just any kind of peace; it’s a peace that can only be found in the Lord. Those who love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble [Psalm 119:165]. His Word will give you peace that passes all understanding [Philippians 4:7], and not as the world gives, but it’s His peace [John 14:27]. His peace is like no other. A calmness will come over you and people will wonder how this can be with all that’s going on around you. They may not understand, but God…

God’s Word is powerful enough to cause all your pain and disease to leave your body and bring complete healing. His Word is powerful enough to change your circumstances and your whole life. God’s Word is anointed, and remember, it’s the anointing that destroys the yokes, removes burdens, and brings change in your life. God’s Word is faith, new birth, spiritual nourishment, healing [mental and physical], cleansing and sanctification, and victory over sin.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. Isaiah 10:27

The Lord honors and is committed to blessing those who respect and love His precious Word. His Word is the most valuable possession we own because it is His written message to us. From the book of Genesis to Revelation, God reveals His mind and heart. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Words shall not pass away [Mark 13:31]. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God shall stand forever [Isaiah 40:8].

    About The Book

It Is Written is filled with the written word, reflections, inspirational words from the Holy Spirit, prayer, proclamations [to release the word into a particular situation], and praise. You will also find that when you get to the sections on praise and prayer, it’s a little longer than the others [I am sure you will understand why].

There is also a section on When You Lose a Loved One and it’s written differently from the rest of the book, because there were a lot of things, I believed the Lord wanted me to discuss. One of them was to share my dark night of the soul experience, and I wanted to include links and additional information for help and encouragement in your time of need. When we lose someone, we love, whether by natural causes, sickness, accidents, or suicide, it can be devastating, it affects everyone differently, and healing takes time. So, I wanted to handle this section in a special way. I pray it will bring some comfort to those in need.

Now, let’s talk about how the book came to be.

You can read the Bible over and over again and each time the Lord will reveal something different to you. This time during my quiet time with Him, while in the book of Matthew, He ministered the phrase It Is Written to me and it just took hold of my spirit, and I couldn’t let it go. It was a wake-up call to go deeper into His Word. I read His Word every day without fail. I’ve gotten to the point that I play my Bible audio during my sleep. I wanted His Word to saturate my mind, my subconscious, my dreams, my everything. I plowed through the Bible looking for the phrase It Is Written and found it quoted in the Bible over eighty times.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read the Gospels, especially Matthew and John, but this time as Jesus was telling satan "it is written," a hunger grew inside of me, and I didn’t want it to stop. I felt His presence getting stronger and stronger. I asked the Lord to make His Word come alive in my life. I asked Him to make me hunger and thirst for His Word more than food, more than water. I wanted to live and breathe His Word, and He answered my prayer.

Jesus stopped satan by quoting what was written in His Word. Jesus was quoting from the book of Deuteronomy, and I was amazed that each time Jesus quoted the Word, satan changed the subject. He knew to move on to something else, but He wasn’t smart enough to stop [at that time] challenging the Lord.

I wanted and needed to go deeper than ever before in His Word. As I continued to meditate on His Word, He led me to study the Gospels over and over, then took me to Psalm 119, the Psalm of the Word of the Lord. Some Bibles call it Meditation on the Excellence of the Word of God, and I know that to be true. You will find more about this Psalm under The Word because I’ve meditated on it night and day, sometimes several times during the day. Each time I read it, the Lord blessed my spirit. Sometimes, I would just have to stop and go into praise and worship because of what He was doing in me. Oh, thank you, Jesus.

Don’t you know that the more the Lord blessed me with His Word, the more the enemy came against me? He attacked my health and whatever he thought he was big enough to do. But God. Let me say that again: but God! Now, I could have believed and received the report of the doctors––and I thank God for the wisdom He gave them. But the Lord blessed me with Word and Word to defeat him.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Hebrews 11:1-2

Remember, no weapon formed against us will prosper. Oh, yes, they will be formed. So what? They won’t prosper, if we hold fast to God’s Word and put Him in remembrance of what He said. Day by day I claimed the good report of the Lord. The report of the Lord says by His stripes I am healed. It is written; therefore, I believe and receive it. Amen!

I studied and searched the Scriptures, and each time I thought I was finished, the Holy Spirit would remind me that I left something out. So, I’ve been working on this book for a few years [thank you, Jesus], and I believe it’s time to share it with you.

Now, allow me to share with you the reason why most of It Is Written is written from a more personal side. I will use two anointed men of the Bible and a couple of Psalms to help me explain.

A Man After God’s Own Heart

1 Samuel 13:14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord has sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be captain over his people because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.

And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will. Acts 13:22

The Lord called David a man after His heart. The Lord was his light and salvation. The Lord was the strength of his life no matter what was going on around him. David was not perfect. He made mistakes. Haven’t we all? However, David never lost his love for the Lord, never turned away from the Lord. And he poured out that love in the Psalms that he wrote.

The 23rd Psalm is a psalm that most of us learned at an early age and would recite it in Sunday School. David shares how the Lord is the good shepherd, and because He is the Good Shepherd, he doesn’t want anything. God makes him lie down and rest when he needs it. He leads him and restores his soul. He will never leave him, and even in the darkest valley, He is walking with him, causing him to fear no evil and giving him unspeakable joy in the presence of his enemies. It’s a psalm that brings comfort to us when we meditate on it. It’s the expressions of delight in God's great goodness, peace, provision, and dependence upon the Lord.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

So, when meditating on the scripture and their affirmations, personalize them; see yourself doing what the Word says, and speak the Word out loud. As you meditate on the Word, you will not only be speaking the Words out loud but believing them in your heart. Speak the Word of the Lord to every obstacle, circumstance, and stronghold in your life; then act on the Word.

    The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved

Now, let’s talk about another man of God, John, the "disciple whom God loved."

Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. John 13:1

There were twelve disciples. Jesus didn’t have a favorite one; for He is no respecter of persons. They all could have at some point leaned on the Lord’s bosom; however, John was the only one chosen to lean on Jesus’ breast. Thus, whenever John is referred to, he is the disciple whom Jesus loved. As it states in the above scripture, Jesus loved them all (John 13:1), but John referred to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved.

Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. John 13:23

Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him. John 20:2

Therefore, that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. John 21:7

Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? John 21:20

Even as Jesus hung on the cross, He trusted the "disciple whom he loved" to take care of His mother.

When Jesus, therefore, saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. John 19:26-27

Thus, we find the Gospel of John revealing more of the passionate side of the Lord. John goes a little deeper than the history of Jesus. He doesn’t lay the foundation again. He builds upon it, leading us more within the veil. The Gospel of John allows us to see a portion of the heart of our Saviour.

We read, in chapters fourteen and seventeen of the Gospel of John, the intimate conversations and prayers that our Savior shared with His disciples before He died for us. Whenever I need encouragement, I meditate and pray through those chapters, and I’ve never failed to feel the peace of the Lord covering me when I’m done.

Therefore, It Is Written is written in the way I talk to the Lord when I need His help or when I am glorifying His name for delivering me from the strongholds of the enemy. Like David, I am striving every day to be a woman after God’s heart and to see myself as John did, a disciple whom Jesus loves.

Another thing to keep in mind, before the Lord sent the disciples out to heal and deliver others, He taught them and gave them power to do so. So, before we can minister to others, we must first fill our lives with His word. We can’t pour into others what we don’t have. That’s why I decided to write It Is Written in a personal way. So, as you read the Proclamations, say it is written at the beginning of each scripture phrase and ask the Holy Spirit to make alive to you any Scriptures that are appropriate to your particular situation. Read through them many times…out loud whenever possible.

As you read the Word of the Lord, stop [selah] and talk to the Lord. Don’t try to read this book all the way through. Stop and tell Him that you believe every word is His Word, and you believe His Word is true, and you receive His Word in your spirit. Ask the Lord to work His Word in you so that it will do everything He sent it to do. Give Him complete surrender, and authority to do what needs to be done in your spirit, soul, and body.

My prayer is that It Is Written will remind you how Jesus used the Word to defeat satan, healed, and set free those who were bound by the enemy, and that can you use the Word the same way to live victoriously over the works of the enemy.

I pray It Is Written will encourage, strengthen, lift you up, and set you on fire to destroy the works of the enemy coming against you. I pray you will read and pray through this book with a believing heart, and speak the Word with believing lips, and realize as the Holy Spirit is speaking through you and His Word, that it is just as effective as when Jesus Himself says it.

Father, please let the readers be blessed by the words they read, so the strongholds in their lives will be destroyed. I want the words You give me to write to feed their spirit, bless their journey, and help them to fulfill their destiny. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

By the Word of Jehovah were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. Psalms 33:6

    Introduction

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, IT IS WRITTEN, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. [Deuteronomy 8:3]

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands, they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, IT IS WRITTEN again, thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. [Deuteronomy 6:16]

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, get thee hence, Satan: for IT IS WRITTEN, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. [Deuteronomy 6:13] Then the devil leaveth him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto him. Matthew. 4:1-11

Allow me to move onto the book of Luke and meditate in it for a moment.

And when the Devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him for a time. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee. And a report went out throughout all the neighborhood concerning Him. Luke 4:13-14

Luke 4:14 tells us that our Saviour was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. However, at the end of the forty days, Jesus returned "in the power of the [Holy] Spirit" (Luke 4:14). Those are two very different experiences.

It is one thing to be led by the Spirit; it is another thing to move and operate in the power of the Spirit. Our Lord did not operate in the power of the Spirit until He had confronted Satan and won. To some degree that truth applies to each one of us. We must defeat the enemy before we can move on. Deal with every attack, every temptation, the same way Jesus did, with the Word of God. Yes, meet it with the Word of the Lord.

Satan thought that since the Lord had been without food, Jesus would be weak. Yes, the Lord may have been hungry after fasting forty days and nights; however, He was strong in the spirit. He knew where His strength lied, and it wasn’t in what satan offered Him. Once again, we will have to overcome temptation and opposition in order to move in the power of the Holy Spirit. And the only way to do that is to do what Jesus did and use the Word to defeat the enemy. We don’t have time to argue with the devil. Don’t be tempted to try to overcome satan, trying to be smart with philosophy or with theology. Jesus never told us to do that, so just hit him hard with the written Word of God, and he will flee. Don’t fuss or argue with the enemy about anything; just stand on the written Word of God and let Him do the rest.

The Scriptures are authoritative. It is the Word of God. Accept it. Love it. Live by it. Answer the devil with it. He cannot answer the written Word of God. If you read the Scriptures from Matthew and Luke, you will see satan never responded to Jesus when He told him, It is written. He always changed the subject. Satan knew better. Using the Keys of the Kingdom, the Word of God, worked for Jesus. It worked for His disciples, and it will work for us. The Lord said we would do greater works because He was going to His Father. Isn’t it time we start doing greater works?

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. John. 14:12-14

Therefore, we will use the same words Jesus used to defeat satan and cause him to flee: IT IS WRITTEN. Meditate on this: when the doctor gives us a prescription, the directions are on the bottle, and we take them as prescribed. So, why don’t we take God at His Word and use His Word as directed? He promised if we follow His directions, to meditate on them day and night, do what is written in them, that we would have good success. Isn’t that what we hope for when we take the medication prescribed by our doctors? Yes, it is. So, why don’t we adhere [stick to, bond, attach] to what His word tells us to do? If we use His Word as prescribed, we are guaranteed to see amazing results. Therefore, be obedient to His word because as the Word says, My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from
