    Naked Attraction - Liv Honeywell

    Prologue

The rich, warm smell of baking wafted through the whole of Helen’s penthouse apartment. Juliet, her niece, twisted her long dark hair into a bun, washed her hands and then took out a second tray of chocolate chip cookies.

So, do tell what’s got you all ruffled. You’re red in the face, and it’s not the heat from the oven. Helen’s eyes narrowed, and she paused in kneading her cinnamon and raisin loaf. Is it a man? It is, isn’t it?

How could you possibly know that? Juliet gaped at her.

Helen regarded her niece fondly over the top of her glasses. I have known you since you were born. I remember when you first started noticing boys. Like that—What was his name? Dozy? You could barely string a sentence together around him.

Juliet laughed. It was Dawson, as you well know. Though to be fair, Dozy was a better description for him.

Indeed. Anyway, out with it. Make an old woman very happy and tell me you’ve found someone wonderful. Helen popped her loaf back into its bowl to rise and covered it over, then washed and dried her hands. She picked up her walking stick and made her way into the lounge where late winter sunlight streamed through the windows.

Oh please. You’re not old. Juliet dropped the used dishes carefully into hot, soapy water. She wiped her hands then followed her aunt through with the tea tray.

Well, I am ninety-four, so I might just qualify, dear. Lowering herself carefully, Helen sank into her favorite chair near the floor-to-ceiling bank of windows looking out over Manchester.

Juliet dropped onto the buttery soft, grey leather sofa opposite her aunt and poured them both a cup of tea. You are the least old person I know. You’ve got more energy than I have.

Thank you. But if you think you can distract me, you’re mistaken, missy. Tell me about this man that has you all aflutter.

Okay, okay. Though there’s not a lot to tell really.

But you’d like there to be.

I think I would. I don’t really know him, but every time I see him, he makes me— Juliet searched for the right word. He makes me fizz. I feel like I’m a teenager all over again.

That’s exactly how it was with me and your Uncle George. Oh, that man. I do miss him. You know, I never so much as looked at anyone else after I met him, and neither did he. And that’s what I want for you. So tell me everything. How did you two meet?

I can’t say we have met exactly. I almost ran into him a few weeks ago when I was on my way from the office to see you. I was looking down at my phone and didn’t see him until it was almost too late. I managed to stop just before I walked right into him and knocked his drink all over his nice white shirt. Can you imagine? Juliet blushed at the memory.

Nooo. Helen leaned forward as she listened.
