6 Stoic Virtues For Modern Living - Andy P Taylor

    What Is Stoicism?

Stoicism is a school of philosophy founded in Athens around the 3rd Century BC.

It is a philosophy of personal well being, virtue, and ethics informed by its system of logic and its views on the natural world. Stoics often asserted that the practice of virtue is both necessary and sufficient to achieve something they called eudaimonia, which essentially means

To Flourish by means of living an ethical life in combination with Heightened self-knowledge, and excellence in line with innate potential.

That is quite the mouthful, but even so, there is much to be said in favor of applying stoic virtues, Ideas, and philosophy into our hectic, modern lives.

The Stoics identified the path to eudaimonia with a life spent practicing the cardinal virtues and living in accordance with nature, something that we will be exploring more throughout this book.

Unfortunately, over the years, the term ‘Stoic’ has been misused and misunderstood to the point where most people believe it to mean indifference to pain, pleasure, grief and joy.

In this book, we will be exploring 6 fundamental Virtues of the stoic, understanding their definition, and seeing how we can incorporate them into our lives

    Virtue #1
