    Botanical Embroidery - Maggie Schnücker

    getting started

As you embark on your embroidery journey, you’re going to find many different approaches to the craft. I’ve illustrated general guidelines for embroidery here, but with time you’ll find your own rhythm and ways you like best. I’ve tried many different fabrics, threads and stitch methods, and this book will take you through my absolute essentials and favorites.

Once you get the hang of them, you’ll be using them all the time! You’ll need both hands for this stitch, so you might want to practice at a table if you’re able. French knots are my favorite way to fill in the center of flowers for that familiar seedy texture, and to fill in other small details like moss and soil.
