    Chapter 1

    The Beginning

    It was a misty rainy day on that late September morning around eight to be exact. As the foghorn went off, it reminded me of the movie Ghost Ship as the somewhat light fog spread out through the Portland streets and slowly disappeared. The trees were turning from their beautiful green to a slightly greenish yellow. The mist from the rain made a foul odor on the bus I was on. As we crossed the bridge and into downtown, the scene changed from trees to high-rise buildings; we had now entered into the city’s Chinatown where I exited the number 4 bus.

    I was confronted by a tall man who stumbled sideways toward me with a bleeding cut on the right side of his forehead, which looked like the cut across the face of the monster from the original Frankenstein.

    Hey, man, you got anything? Any smoke? Some boo-ya? the tall man expressed, looking exhausted and tired in the face.
