Help in the Time of Storm - Theodore Turner

    Chapter 1

We Chose the Name of the story: Help in the Time of Storm

I had been taught to hide under a couch as a child when a tornado headed toward our family’s house and my mother would turn over the couch and sit under there with us until the tornado went past us. She would pray for us every day. She had been taught that this was the safest way to deal with a tornado if you did not have a shelter.

My wife and I hid under the couch in Bethany, Oklahoma, when we saw a twister tornado in the sky. The tornado we saw turned and went away from us. I know now that Jesus was protecting us often, from the time we were children until now, and gave us protection and blessings.

The Bible reference chapters, later on, will have several pages of King James Bible (KJV) verses that we believe are important and reflect how we believe and pray. We include the sermon Jesus preached called the beatitudes. It is three chapters near the end. In every chapter we try and include KJV verses that may pertain to the topic of the chapter. The time line of the stories will jump from the past, present, and future and back sometimes.

    Bible verses to learn

A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. (Ps. 30:1–5)

Many of our basic talents are based on what God put in our spirit.

Always remember that God knew us and gave us a soul before we were born. He also gave us talents and planned us in eternity and has given us all many talents, and it is up to us to develop these little talents into very great works in our lives. You can read about this in:

    Bible verses to learn

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. (Jer. 1:5)

We were designed by God and he never makes a mistake! Remember who made you, and search your heart and find out what all your talents are. Once you know your talents, make a list and decide which ones are the most important and which ones give God the most glory, then you can work to develop your talents in the name of Jesus.

Once your talents are found and released with God’s blessings, you can start to water them with prayer and they can grow like branches of a tree. You can see each talent become a great branch in your life. This talent can sprout its own branches and leaves and become a place of shade and peacefulness, to you and others. It will be like sitting in a forest of trees made with leaves of Bible verses. Your talent can bring peace and security to others also.

In other words, if you can sing a little, try to develop it in to a great talent for Jesus. If you can draw a blueprint, then develop it in a way to give God glory. If you can teach, then learn to do it better and professionally in a way that can give God glory. You must have some talents that are special to you and God can help you to develop them. Never let people discourage you from doing this.

Remember when a grandmother or aunt said you are so good at that drawing or saying those Bible verses. Remember how you sang her a song and she said to sing more because you were so good at it. Then this shows that others knew you had talents early in your life that you can use now.

Always have hope and don’t be surprised what God can do with your life.

    Chapter 2

    Starting a New Christian College

    Oklahoma

Our father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.

I believe prayer changes things. What is impossible to man is possible with God. Even if you get a no on the prayer request, you will find that God can help you find a better way.

Whenever my wife and I needed something, we would say, Let’s pray about this, and we would pray and ask in the name of Jesus, and it seemed like the natural thing to do for both of us. We would ask for forgiveness for any new sins of commission or sins of omission, such as not giving off our resources or not helping someone. We would praise God for all his blessings and answers to prayers. We would pray for the leaders of our country. We would pray for our relatives and any other needs we may have. We would then wait on God to answer, which we hoped would be yes.

Jesus brought us through very hard and very difficult times at many turns in our lives. He has often answered each of our prayers, and not just in small degrees.

I think one of the most significant times I can recall and the first of many of the most spiritual times in prayer communion was when we lived in Oklahoma and I attended a Christian college there. We had traveled the one thousand miles or so on faith that we were supposed to go there and I would study religion and mathematics.

While we were there, we had a lot of needs that we had no idea how to supply but were able, through prayer, and faith in Jesus, to find answers.

We continued to pray and try to not worry about tomorrow. It seemed that many things in our lives would just fall into place. The following chapters will detail some of our answered prayers to God. This book was started sometime in the 1970s and finished recently.

Among our favorite Bible verses are:

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matt. 6:34)

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Heb. 12:2)

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (Isa. 41:10)

If you need a special answer today, try a prayer to Jesus Christ who is the indwelling revelation of God in the flesh. Ask your request in the name of Jesus. Then wait for the answer in a spirit of expectation. Look out your door or window each day and say, Jesus, I am looking for the answer to the salvation of my family. If God did it for you in the past, he will do it again. Never give up; keep praying for health and deliverance.

    Praying for healing prayers

    You could pray:

Jesus, I am waiting for the healing I have been asking for in Jesus’s name. Start expecting to see strength coming back in your body or your family members. Start trying to move the hand or leg, and pray that your family or friends can start moving their broken body parts. Expect some kind of answer even if it seems to be wait. Remember that Jesus is working in the background on your request. In the book of Daniel, Daniel prayed and the angel Michael took two weeks to bring the answer due to having to fight his way through bad angels. This may still be happening in our times also. Be patient and keep sending up your requests to God.

    Chapter 3

    Looking for a Mattress

Our first great answer to prayer. The first night we were there, we needed a place to sleep.

We had prayed several times, before arriving, that we could find some place to sleep. We had a limited amount of money, we didn’t know anyone there yet, but we were so tired of traveling that we even thought of the possibility of renting a motel with some of the money we were trying to hold on to. I didn’t like the idea of spending money on a motel in the middle of the night. My wife said she really wanted to sleep on a mattress and did not want to sleep in the car again.

To me it seemed best to me to just stay in our own car for the night. She was determined and tired and said that we should stay somewhere else with a mattress. We decided to pray about this in Jesus’s name.

We always felt that when you say the part of the Lord’s Prayer that says, Give us our daily bread, then you could pray for everything else you may need.

We prayed for a place to stay, and I prayed to Jesus that she wanted a mattress and I wanted his guidance about what to do. I thought God could answer our prayer if it was in his care of the small needs. When we were finished praying, we started to make the bed in the car since my faith was a little uncertain about this prayer. I was not sure God would answer small prayers, such as the need for a mattress to sleep on.

We were almost ready to sleep on a bed we made in the car when a college policeman came up. He told us we couldn’t sleep on the main street in front of the school.

They said we could sleep in a parking lot around the corner for the night. We had prayed that she could have a mattress to sleep on that night; we still hoped it might happen. But I still did not feel we should spend the money. We did not know anyone in the town where we were at and did not have the luxury to call some person for help.

Neither one of us really had much hope it might come to pass though. After a little while, we heard the college police driving back up.

They said they had a building we could stay in for the night if we wanted to.

We drove over to the place they said to go to, and we noticed it was used for storage and used to be a church; we went in. This is when we found out that God can supply our needs very abundantly and beyond our expectations.

Jesus had provided my wife and myself with a whole building of mattress!

It was a mattress and bed storage building. She searched through several mattresses and soon found exactly the type she wanted, and we made our bed on the best mattress we could have expected.

When I say, my bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint. (Job 7:13)

In retrospect, I think that Jesus, the great I am, was showing us that prayer does work, and we were just getting our first amazing and mysterious lesson in praying for a specific thing. Also we felt he wanted us to have some rest after our long drive.

Sometimes our faith is weak, but Jesus will sometimes cause a special answer to prayer appear in our time of need. In fact, we may be seriously lacking in the amount of faith we have. We believed that we should send up our prayers to heaven, whether our faith seemed weak or not or if we wondered if they would be answered or not. We should look to what God said about this in the following reference verses:

He told them, It was because of your little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; nothing will be impossible for you. (Matt. 17:20)

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. (Zech. 4:6)

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matt. 6:34)

When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint. (Job 7:13)

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. (Heb. 12:14)

We must have holiness if we want to see the Lord.

    Chapter 4

It is now your turn to pray, read, and say the following verses to get saved or refresh your walk with Jesus. Today could be the last time you will have a chance to get saved.

Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. (Isa. 59:1–3)

Ask God to forgive you today; do not wait another day. It is your time to get saved. No one is guaranteed an endless life. Do it now for your own sake.

At this time, again, I want to show everyone how to become a Christian as my wife and I did, on the Romans Road to salvation (Rom. 10:9–13).

If you are not saved or are not sure you are, then I suggest you read the following verses out loud and pray for salvation. When you read Bible verses out loud, I believe God hears you, and it helps to remember the verses.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jer. 29:11)

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23)

That if thou shalt confess with
