About this ebook

The Revelation is a revelation of things to happen.

We are actually witnessing some of the events foretold in this book.

It is Christ who commands John to write to the seven churches, who opens the seven seals, reveals the suffering of the saints, opens the little book, reigns, judges the dead according to their works at his Second Coming, rules from the beginning, presides over the changing scenes of earth’s history, and who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The book is one of hope but also one of warning. Its aim is to assure the church of the advent of the Lord in victory that lies hidden with God but it is certain. But the crown will not be won without a struggle.

The conflict is presented by the form of symbols that are not difficult to understand––Jerusalem times as the type of cause. And this is the church of Christ.

Babylon appears as the type of evil cause, and this is the world of power. The heavenly Jerusalem has the assistance of divine power. The earthly Babylon has the help of evil powers, the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet.

    Chapter 1

    Revelation 1:1–6

The revelation of Jesus Christ that God gave him, to make known to his servants, that must shortly come to pass and he sent and revealed it through his servant John.

Who bare witness to the word of God, and the testimony of Jesus Christ, to whatever he saw.

Blessed are they who read and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and do those things that are written; for the time is now.

    Greetings

John to the seven churches that are in Asia; grace be to you and peace from him and who is coming and from the seven spirits.

The scenes in the great conflict arrange themselves around those types of good and evil.

The numbers, the seals, the trumpets and the bowls are phases in the development of the conflict.

John has arranged the visions he keeps in this arrangement to be revealed.

The book was by Saint John the divine, on the isle of Patmos, about the year 96 AD.

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who has loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.

And made us to be kings and priests to God his father, to him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

    Jesus Christ Coming

    Revelation 1:7–20

Behold he comes with the clouds, and every person will see him, and they also who crucified him, even so. Amen.

I am the beginning and the end, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty.

    The Seven Churches

I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and kingdom and patience that are in Jesus, was on the island which is called Patmos, because of the word of God and of Jesus.

I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.

Saying, "What you see write in this book and send to the seven churches, to Ephesus, and to Smyrna, and to Pergamum, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.
